Sisters Wendolyn Lopez, CDP and Sally Vega, CDP
Last week, La Posada welcomed two new volunteers from Puerto Rico. Sister Wendolyn Lopez, CDP and Sister Sally Vega, CDP are both Sisters of the Divine Providence and come to volunteer for the month of June.

Sister Wendolyn is originally from the Dominican Republic but has been studying for her masters in Religious Studies in Puerto Rico.

“Coming from another country I feel I can relate to the clients and I can get a better understanding of where they are coming from”, said Sister Wendolyn.

Sister Wendolyn has been part of The Sisters of the Divine Providence since 2005; this is her second time volunteering with La Posada. Her favorite things about volunteering are the multiculturalism found here and interacting with the clients. Although she is volunteering as an English as a second language tutor, she enjoys assisting in transportation and helping the clients with other needs.

“I enjoy the different people and the multiculturalism. I am just glad I can help others,” Sister Wendolyn said.

After her visit with La Posada, Sister Wendolyn hopes to go back to the Dominican Republic where she can work with youth ministries.

Sister Sally Vega, CDP is also volunteering as an English as a second language tutor. Sister Sally comes from Puerto Rico where she is a 5th grade teacher at a local Catholic school. She has been part of the Sisters of Divine Providence since 2009.

This is also Sister Sally’s second time visiting La Posada, and she still enjoys the foliage and peace that she finds here. For her, a new experience is what motivated her to visit La Posada for the month of June.

“I came to La Posada to get a new experience and I wanted to help the people of La Posada”, Sister Sally said.

What Sister Sally enjoys most about volunteering is that there is always something to do. She enjoys giving her time to others and appreciates that everyone, no matter where they came from, can work together.

After her time volunteering with us, Sister Sally will return to Puerto Rico to continue teaching 5th grade.

We would like to thank Sister Wendolyn and Sister Sally for making the long trip from Puerto Rico to San Benito to volunteer with us. We are truly grateful for your giving hearts.
