Upcoming Events and Activities at 282
Welcome Back and hope you had a fun/restful/productive spring break! We are looking for participation from you to accomplish great things in the last months of the school year. Everything you need to know at this time is included in this email but we'll send separate topic emails as well.
Next PTO Meeting: May 15, 6pm
At this meeting, you will meet the candidates for the PTO for next year and VOTE! Interested in running? Please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Childcare will be available (ages 3 and up, suggested donation of $5 per child).
At the June meeting, we will be inviting parents interested in pitching a plan for the use of PTO funds to present so we can vote. CLICK HERE for guidance to prepare your pitch!
Recess and Lunch Support Program
Thanks to parent leaders we now have an active Recess and Lunch Parent/Guardian Support Program for 282. CLICK HERE to sign up for one hour any weekday to help support. Just having an extra adult present, helps make it easier for the students to get the most out of these school periods. Have a question about this or nervous about what you may need to do? Just ask! Happy to give the real scoop.
Defend our Turf
At our last meeting, one of our parent leaders sparked a conversation about what we might be able to do to help keep the park clean. We have some four-legged friends who don’t understand that doing their business on the turf means spreading diseases to our students and children. Reply if you want to join the movement to find ways to work with the city and keep our play space clean! We are trying to build a case and solicit the best help from our representatives.

GreenZone - Parent-run Garden Program
Our parent-run garden program is being led by some awesome parents who are dedicated to keeping the garden active. At the last PTO meeting, we approved funding for an end of school year program administered by Brooklyn Seeds to ensure that all students get some time in the garden. Support the program by offering to volunteer OR bring your $$ to purchase plants at the fundraising sale on April 29 and 30, at drop off and pick up. An email with more details will be sent out.
After School Programs
Don't forget to renew your after school programming if your selected program runs on a trimester. Here’s a handy chart with contact information for all of 282’s current offerings.
Thank you to all of the teachers, parents and students for supporting our first Autism Awareness events and activities. Have questions about this school program or interested in learning more? Watch this video that the ASD Horizon teachers shared with the PTO and the K-2nd grade students or reach out.
