Happy Holidays from Hydro Ottawa!

Wishing you, your staff and your loved ones a safe, merry and bright holiday season.

Now Keeping Customers Informed by Email and Text/SMS

This month, Hydro Ottawa added two new types of planned power interruption notifications. In addition to automated telephone messages, customers will now receive an email and short message service (SMS) text when a planned power interruption is scheduled for their neighbourhood.

The notification type depends on the contact information and telephone number available on a customer’s account. To opt out of this service, customers can call us directly or manage their preferences on their MyAccount profile.

This is the first time that Hydro Ottawa is contacting customers by text message.

A list of significant planned work projects is available on our website at hydroottawa.com/plannedwork

Fraud Awareness

Given recent fraud activity in the province, Hydro Ottawa and other large distributors in Ontario are reminding customers to be cautious regarding suspicious messages.

Hydro Ottawa does not send emails or SMS/text messages demanding payment or offering a refund. Never provide any personal or electricity account information in response to suspicious calls, texts or home visits. If you’re not sure it’s us, contact us right away. Visit hydroottawa.com/fraud to learn more.

Hydro Ottawa Website Update

A revised version of hydroottawa.com was launched on Thursday, November 28.

It may appear familiar at first, however, after a few clicks, visitors will notice a series of enhancements were applied to improve the user’s digital experience, including overall performance during significant events. These enhancements include customized components that ensure a more mobile-friendly experience and improved page load times.

What to do When a Streetlight is Out...

While commuting through the city, residents may come across a streetlight that's burnt out or damaged.

To help the City address this as soon as possible, here's how residents can report it:

1.    Report and create a request via the City of Ottawa mobile app.
2.    Report a problem on the Ottawa.ca website.
3.    Report a problem via phone by calling 3-1-1 (similar to other City services).
4.    Councillor escalation on a resident's behalf should be directed to Greg Sergeant, Program Manager - Signals & Street lighting (greg.sergeant@ottawa.ca).
5.    Councillor escalation directed to Envari Energy Solutions should be addressed to Guy Brunet (guybrunet@envari.com).

Rate Changes to Serve You Better

The Ontario Energy Board has approved changes to Hydro Ottawa’s distribution rates for 2020. These adjustments play an important role in ensuring Hydro Ottawa is able to invest in the local power grid and maintain reliable electricity service for our growing city.

In 2015, the provincial regulator approved a five-year rate plan (2016-2020) for Hydro Ottawa. In their support of this plan, the Ontario Energy Board staff and intervenor groups agreed that Hydro Ottawa could seek targeted adjustments on an annual basis.

Effective January 1, 2020, the total bill for a typical Hydro Ottawa residential customer using 700 kilowatt-hours per month will increase by $1.27 per month or 1.18% (after taxes and the Ontario Electricity Rebate). For a typical small commercial customer using 2,000 kilowatt-hours per month with a demand of less than 50 kilowatts, the total monthly distribution charge will increase by approximately $4.93 per month or 1.67%.
