PAUL'S FISHING
img
Paul has been fishing up near Wentworth, NSW this week tackling big monster Murray cod with Rod Mackenzie. Paul is having a ball, casting Bassman spinner baits into the snags and slow retrieving them before getting annihilated by the beasts of the river. Paul is currently out of service but will be telling the story of this week’s fishing on 3AW Fishing this Friday night.
WHITING CHALLENGE WINNER
img
Well done to Robert Bugeja who won the annual Western Port Whiting Challenge with the heaviest fish that weighed 0.966kg. Several fish were also caught over 700 grams. Congratulations to all the competitors that got out there and weighed in a fish.
WESTERN PORT
MIDDLE SPIT
img
Good customer, Gavin Methers, took his son Tyler out this week and fished the middle spit in search of whiting. The boys were not disheartened, and managed a cracking bag of fish to 43cm.
SOUTHERN END
img

Carri with a lovely calamari she caught on Saturday and named it the “Cracken of the deep”. There is some bigger sized calamari deep in Western Port at the moment, and drop shotting your squid jigs is a good method to try.

img
Shaun Furtiere from Think Big fishing charters got amongst the big gummies this week, finding his clients this big girl. What a beautiful looking fish, well done guys.
POINT LEO
img

Up and coming fishergirl, Shaye Borninkhof, took out first place for the heaviest fish for a girl under 10 in last weekend’s whiting challenge with this massive 746g whiting caught in the Point Leo area. Shaye out fished many of the senior, male and female competitors. Well done Shaye!

FLINDERS
img
Land Based fishing has been red hot this past week across both the bays; the Niere boys had a good session from the Flinders pier on Saturday landing 9 quality mullet. To increase your chances of catching mullet from the piers, plenty of berley is the key.
PHILLIP ISLAND
img

Breno has been snorkeling around the reefs of Phillip Island and bringing home some delicious feeds. Check out this 3kg cray that Breno caught on the weekend. Great stuff mate, where’s our invite for tea?

img
Jayson Turner from Pro Red fishing charters had some success finding the kingfish for his clients this week, and also for himself, landing his first ever king! Well done Jayson, cracking fish.
img
Darren Hamilton Moore got his arms stretched on this quality kingfish this week, weighing in at 12.8kg. Darren was fishing out the back of Phillip Island and managed his fish on a live yakka using an 8oz kingy rig.

PORT PHILLIP BAY
MORNINGTON
img
Ian and Shane had a good night out off Mornington this week landing 6 cuttlefish, the biggest weighing a massive 4kg and also plenty of squid around the 1kg mark. Some cracking models for the inner bay!
img
Jayson Turner from Pro Red fishing charters reports that there are still good numbers of snapper to 3kg and some big flatties in about 21m off Mornington. Pilchard has been the best bait on the Instinct lumo snapper rigs.
PORTSEA
img
What a great mixed bag caught by Peter Kasidiaris, and it was land based! Peter reports that the Portsea pier is on fire at the moment, and if you want a good feed, then head down there. Peter has been using red and gold foil squid jigs in size 2.5 to lure his calamari, and pipi and mussel have been working well for the whiting and leatherjacket’s.
THE RIP
img

Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters had a good afternoon on Wednesday, sending his customer’s home quite happy after finding the kings at the Rip. Metal Jigs have continued to dominate in the Rip this season.

POINT RICHARDS
img

Graeme Spence fished deep out from Point Richards on Sunday to land a quality 8.5kg snapper. Graeme toughed out the windy conditions of the bay and was rewarded with a quality fish.

AROUND THE STATE
PORTLAND
img
Staff member Harley (AKA the “seven gill man”) headed down to Portland on Monday in search of the kingfish and the early run of tuna. Harley reports that it was quite a tough day on the water, every time he dropped his jigs on the kings, they would be lost to the abundances of coota in the area. After much frustration, he ended up chasing the bluefin and landed this quality model. Well done mate.
TOOLONDO
img
Chris Spence and Geoff Stock have been fishing out of Toolondo this week and have landed some quality brown trout! Geoff caught his fish on Wednesday which weighed 3.15kg and Chris’ fish went right on 3kg. Some fantastic fishing is to be had at Toolondo, and it can only get better. Well done fellas.
AROUND THE COUNTRY
TASMANIA
img
Massive congratulations to one of our own, Greg Duncan, who managed to find his highly sought after 1kg whiting. Greg has been searching for this fish for most of his life, and now he can safely say he’s caught it! The fish measured 54cm and weighed 1.2kg. Great stuff Kermit.
NAROOMA
img
Well done to the Bryant family (team “hooked on plastics”) who fished the Narooma Flathead challenge last week with much success. Blair, Nikki, Hayden and Rhys finished 13th overall in the comp for the weekend, and Nikki took out the biggest fish for a woman. Well done from Tackleworld Cranbourne and Mornington, keep up the good work guys.
PORT STEPHENS
img
The Marlin fishing has gone a bit quiet this week, with most of those currents pushing south, but Simon Rinaldi from Red Hot Fishing charters still managed to find his clients some fish, and tagged his 50th fish for the season. Well done Simmo!
