This week’s “catch of the week” goes to regular Mornington customers, Matt Paterson and Darren Hamilton-Moore. The pair had a fantastic session last week landing 4 big gummies and this cracking schoolie out of the Western Entrance. Love ya work fellas!

Plenty of big rock flathead have been prevalent throughout Western Port this season as Maria found out on Tuesday. Maria was fishing out from Hastings when she landed this chunky 54cm flathead while targeting whiting. Love ya work Maria!

MIDDLE SPIT

Keith Diprose from Big Time Charters was off the water last weekend due to some mechanical issues, but he got straight back into the whiting action with a nice bag for his customers on Monday. Skitzy reports that the spit is going well with mussel being the gun bait. The whiting took a little bit of searching to find, but with some berley and persistence it didn’t take them long to chew.

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters spent a warm Christmas Eve on the Port with a couple of regular clients in search of some big gumbos. It wasn’t long before the action kicked in and the group managed 4 good gummies from 8-15kg during the session. Love ya work Shaun!

JOES ISLAND

Leigh Easton and his teammate Jason Smyth fished in 8.5m of water near Joes Island for some good success on the gummies. Leigh and Jason report that fresh squid and salmon got the gummies biting on the run out tide.

CORALS

Jayson landed this nice gummy while fishing at the Corals with his two girls, Mia and Madee. Jayson reports that a fresh silver trevally fillet got the job done and the girls were pleased with the fresh flake on their plates!

Tristan had a good day out on the water last week, fishing the Silverleaves area. He managed some quality salmon which soon got converted into this tasty gummy. Tristan reports he was fishing in 18m of water when his rod buckled over.

WESTERN ENTRANCE

Good mates of the shop, Matt Paterson and Darren Hamilton-Moore fished the western entrance last week and had a blast catching 4 gummies and this monster school shark. The schoolie was caught on a chunk of fresh trevally using an 8/0 circle hook. For landing these big toothies, circle hooks can be critical! Great work boys.

Anthony Torpy fished in some perfect conditions Christmas Eve and was rewarded with this pigeon pair of snapper weighing 3kg each. Anthony spent some time collecting mullet for bait and the hard work definitely paid off with both fish coming on fresh fillets.

CARRUM

Matt Boulton from Fish On Fishing Charters has been full on over the Christmas period and the snapper have been playing the game out from Carrum. Matt reports that the average size have been around the 2kg mark with the odd bigger fish to 4kg. Gummy sharks have also been in the mix.

Simon Rinaldi from Red Hot Fishing Charters sent his customers home with some tasty Christmas presents last week. Simmo found plenty of fish to 2kg with some good sized flatties also thrown into the bag. Instinct Lumo Snapper Rigs have proved themselves yet again.

The boys from Sharkmen Fishing Charters found much the same as most of the other operators did this week, the size of fish have been quite small but at least there has been plenty of them! Some good gummys have also been in the action this week with pilchard being the go to bait.

MORNINGTON

Jayson Turner from Pro Red Fishing Charters has focused his attention out from Mornington over the past week and has found abundances of sizeable pinkies. Jayson reports he has been plagued by the smaller fish for the majority of the time, but the occasional bigger fish are still out there! Pilchard and silver whiting have been Jayson’s preferred baits.

Ian Walker and Wayne Phipps headed out from Mornington last week for a short session on the calamari. Ian and Wayne didn’t disappoint and managed to land 20 squid and 4 quality cuttlefish within 3 hours of drifting in 5m. Great catch fellas!

There were a few good sized reds kicking around out from Mornington as Pat Ellaby found out on Tuesday morning. Pat was fishing in 23m of water were he marked up a handful of solid arches which didn’t take long to feed! Pat ended up with these two beauties of 4kg which are destined for the dinner table!

Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters has switched tactics and the squid and whiting have been on the hit list. Matt reports there have been no shortages of both species and they have copped a hiding aboard Reel Time! Yum Yum.

Mason was stoked when he landed this mullet while patrolling the gutters at Lorne Beach. Mason landed his catch with his old man right on the low tide.

COBRAM

The Murray River has been a popular destination over the past week and Josh Calleja was very happy when he landed his first ever Murray Cod of 60cm while fishing near Cobram on Monday. Great work Josh!

GUNNAMATTA

EJ put in the hard yards Monday night into early Tuesday morning and was rewarded with this quality gummy shark from the sand at Gunnamatta. EJ’s gummy measured 102cm and was taken at 2am.

PORT ALBERT

Lachlan and Ruby Fitzmaurice had a good outing this week. Lachlan and Ruby fished an area called the Blue Hole which is near Sunday Island at Port Albert. The pair had a ball landing these quality whiting in superb conditions.

Phil and Nicko had the time of their lives catching monster reds out from Arno Bay in SA. The boys couldn’t fathom how good the snapper fishery is with multiple 8+kg fish caught. Stunning fish boys, well done!
