HASTINGS

Congratulations to 5 year old Murphy Johnson on catching his very first snapper. Murphy was fishing out from Hastings with his dad and landed the fish all by himself and the smile proves how pleased he was. Well done Murphy hopefully many more to come over the years.

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters produced plenty more Western Port whiting for some happy customers again this week. Shaun found some good success along the Spit with pipi and mussel.

There are some beautiful whiting kicking around the Port as Chris Rosenbrock found out this week. Chris had a ball catching 40cm+ ting with the secret cuttlefish bait doing the trick. Great stuff Chris!

Tom landed some beautiful King George whiting while fishing with his dad at Eagle Rock on Saturday. The boys were targeting gummy’s with fresh slimy mackerel when these 45cm ting decided they would intervene! Great work fellas!

Staff member Kallan and his good mate Thommo headed out off Warneet on Sunday and as soon as they came out of the channel, the water was alive with busting salmon which the fellas had some good fun throwing Arma metal lures at.

Lochie Sheridan couldn’t wipe the smile off his face after landing this big girl from Western Port recently. It’s definitely been a stella season on the big gummy’s!

Matthew Caterson took out his boys over the weekend and they had an absolute ball on Western Port! There were stacks of bait around with plenty of mackerel and trevally hanging around the busting schools of salmon, however the stand out of the day was this awesome capture of a hammerhead shark along with a table sized gummy.

67 y/o Noel paddled his kayak out from San Remo last week and hooked into this 65cm sand flathead. Noel reports that the usual whiting and garfish were also prevalent.

Michael O’Connell from the Victorian Police Angling Club caught this elephant fish while fishing out from Rhyll over the weekend. Michael reports this beautiful creature took a pilchard and fought quite well!

Cameron fished with his dad and pop on Saturday morning and was stoked to catch some lovely big salmon and also this ripping octopus while out from Sandy Point. Definitely a cool catch Cameron!

Justin Blythe just can’t get enough of these land-based gummys! Justin headed out onto the sand with his good mate, Heng Hryhen and together landed some beautiful specimens on fresh trevally. Well done boys!

Natalie Powell had an absolute cracker of a day on Saturday! Natalie landed a leatherjacket, some beautiful King George whiting and a great feed of calamari while fishing down at Cat Bay/Flinders. Great to see the youngsters out on the water!

Rosemary Powell headed out on the Port last weekend and landed a lovely 44cm whiting in some immaculate conditions at Flinders.

Trent Dickinson has been at it again in Bass Strait. Trent headed out through the Eastern entrance in search of gummy’s and flathead, but instead came across this lovely thresher shark on a chunk of coota. Great by-catch mate!

Claire Carter and her friend Charlie Duncan had a ball catching squid while on the Bay over the weekend. Good to see the girls getting in to the action!

John Karrasch managed this quality 4.5kg snapper while fishing in 17m of water out from Mordialloc. John was fishing last Saturday before the northerly kicked in.

Jayson Turner from Pro Red Fishing Charters couldn’t get into the big snapper this week but was able to send his clients home with a great feed of smaller pinkies which were great fun on light gear!

Jonny Zuluaga tuned into Talking Fishing’s Hot Spots and decided to head to Mt Eliza where he fished in 18m of water and picked up this solid 4.4kg snapper. Jonny also managed another 3kg model as well as some flathead and small gummy sharks. Great work mate!

Some great reports sent in over the weekend. Kevin O'Brien popped into our Mornington store to get some snapper weighed on the weekend. Kevin was fishing out of his Kayak around 5km out from Mornington and these fish weighed 5.7 and 5.3kg respectively. Kevin also had a nice little gummy as well.

Ryan Knight had a great weekend fishing for Snapper. Ryan fished Friday night, Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon bagging out and releasing fish on each occasion with fish to 8kg and lots around the 5kg mark all straight out the front of the Mornington pier in 16-18m.

Vishant Prasad landed this healthy Melbourne red while fishing in 19m of water out from Mornington this week. Vish was out on Saturday when his rod buckled over at about 1pm with pilchards the bait of choice.

Wes Hayles caught this 8kg snapper during the week fishing in 17mt of water out from Mornington. The fish ate a chunk of yakka that Wes caught moments before. Solid fish Wes!

All aboard the snapper train! Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters was back out there this week giving the snapper a bit of a touch up! Matt reports there are great numbers of fish around Mt Martha and Mornington at the moment which have definitely been keeping him busy!

Staff member Nathan spent Sunday on the water chasing some calamari with his better half Hannah. The pair had a ball bagging out in no time with Odori squid jigs the stand out.

Brodie King ventured out to the Point Richards Channel with his dad Kristian in search of some late season reds. Unfortunately the boys couldn’t fool the snapper, but Brodie did land these chunky flathead to take home a tasty feed!

Simon Rinaldi and Matty Harris from Red Hot Fishing Charters are back at Portland and were able to get amongst plenty of bluefin for their clients! Things will really start to fire up as the water temp drops.

Staff members Kyle Small and Harry Bould headed to the Toorongo on Monday morning to try catch some trout before the storms. The boys managed 5 beautifully marked little trout before the rains hit and chased them away. Top job boys.

Mornington staff member Kyle Small has just got back from a few days up at Paynesville. Kyle had a ball fishing the Newlands Arm and Paynesville Jettys, Catching countless numbers of Bream to 36cm along with some Ludrick and Tailor. Best baits were live Sandworms and Spider crabs.

Staff member Liz and hubby Rob have cruised down to Lakes Entrance to see if the prawn situation has heated up a little bit. Liz sent though a couple of pics and reports that though there aren’t heaps of prawns around, but the ones that are there are quite big! Well played Liz!

Robert Johnstone, Steve Moreland and Jack Mankiewicz fished Lake Tyers on the weekend and while up there Steve caught this awesome flathead measuring 75cm.

Good customer Pat Nolen ventured up to Shady Camp with a few mates and reports he had an absolute ball whilst catching his very first barramundi along with some metre+ threadfin! The weather was looking sketchy prior to heading up but the NT definitely turned it on! Big gold bombers were the lure of choice.

Congratulations to the boys from Snapper Point Angling club on their recent trip to the 3 Kings NZ. Fishing aboard Enchanter Fishing Charters, Steve Hanley, Kane Davies, Greg Nixon, Steve Howlett and Russel Sheppard had one goal on this trip and that was to land a Kingfish bigger than 42kg and their goal was met when Russel landed this absolute pig of a fish weighing in at 43kg. Congrats fellas!
