WESTERN PORT
TOP END
img
Dave Standing and Brendan Wing have been once again proving Western Port to be the ideal Port to target big gummy sharks and snapper. Dave managed this nice fish with a beautiful backdrop, and then released it to fight another day.
img

After no luck on the snapper in the top end of Western Port, Jayden and his crew switched to target gummy sharks. They ended up with 17 throughout the day including a lot of undersized fish, but the guys were happy with some nice keepers in the mix.

HASTINGS
img

Ivan Kuljis with cousin Sam and daughters Elana and Katia caught this 5.5kg snapper out from Hastings. The crew had a ball as it was their first ever snapper.

POINT LEO

Staff member Garry Norton spent last Friday night targeting gummy sharks around Point Leo. After losing many baits to sea lice, he managed this 3kg model at high tide in the early hours of Saturday morning. Californian Squid did the damage as bait.

CARRUM
img
Simon Rinaldi and his clients have enjoyed some good snapper fishing this week albeit tough going at times. Simon reports pilchard and squid are as a good baits as any.
SWAN BAY
Swan Bay proved to be a great location this past week as it provides some shelter from the strong winds. Anglers fishing the Swan Bay channel have had no trouble in boating species such as Australian Salmon, Pike, Flathead and Gummy Shark. The most productive method is to drift baits such as pilchard and blue bait suspended under a float or drift the channel casting plastics.
OFFSHORE
img
Heading out of Barwon Heads Rob Pantazis had his sights set on a shark. Robs trip was not in vain as he managed to boat a Mako Shark of 65kg using a small 10kg setup which resulted in a one and a half hour fight. Chris Vasileksi from Gone Fishing Charters was fishing similar grounds over the past week and took snapper to 4kg as well as some large flathead by fishing baits such as pilchard and squid.

Jackson and Mitch Taylforth had a quick fish on Monday after work chucking some lures around for Cod. They fished the Goulburn and landed this 86cm beast of a Murray Cod on a Codger lure that Jackson added some custom paint to. After a few quick pics the fish was released to hopefully grow bigger for next time.

DENILIQUIN
img
Kris Leckie had an absolute cracker couple of days in the Deniliquin area, with 36 cod landed between his family over 2 days. He was lucky enough to help 11yo Brodie Pearce land a monster 92cm cod on a bardi grub. As you can tell, the smile on his face said it all! Kris’ best for the trip was a nice 64cm, which was a new PB. All fish caught over the 2 days were released to fight another day.

NSW SOUTH COAST
img

While Stuart Hindson isn’t terrorizing the flathead, bream or mulloway, he likes to target the whiting in the shallows on lures. This was his best of the day during the week and it went 43.5cm. The word is, it’s the best start to a whiting season in 15 years on the coast.
