Paul is currently fishing in New Zealand with the crew from Nomad Sportsfishing and has just wrapped up some fat kingfish madness! Paul reports he hasn’t broken any records as far as numbers go, but the quality and size have been something else!

Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters was back at the Rip this week and right amongst the yellow tail kingfish action. The size of fish hasn’t been overly big but they are kingfish nevertheless! Great work Mitch!

Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters got back from Portland this week and got back into the Melbourne kingfish! Matt fished both the Rip and out the front mixing things up but still supplying the goods! Jigging was the best method inside the Rip with 200 gram Entice jigs doing the damage.

Scotty Gray the kingfish guru reports the west coast is really firing. Scott was amongst plenty more fat hoodlums this week and reports they were tightly schooled with kilometers of tuna! Scott expects the kingfish to stay strong for another month or two.

The Charter Fish Narooma crew has managed to get out amongst the kingies at Montague Island this week as the marlin bite slowed down. The kingfish haven’t been in huge numbers, but a lot of the fish are weighing around the 10kg mark.

Robert Rowe headed out from Stoney Point last week and came back to the ramp with this lovely mixed bag of snapper and gummy. Some top quality chew right there!

Good friend of the shop, Paul Delisle and his mate, Geoff McMahon fished at Corinella on Saturday. The tides were slow, but Paul managed a dozen good whiting before moving to the deeper water off French Island and they were able to land some quality pinkies to 50cm. Paul reports this area has been fishing very well over the past weeks.

There’s been quite a few catches of hammerheads throughout both Western Port and Port Phillip of late. Neil Boal from Warragul managed this little beauty while out from Corinella over the weekend.

Shaun Furtiere from Thing Big Fishing Charters has continued the good form on the Western Port gummies this week. Shaun fished in some of the calmest conditions imaginable on Monday night and also delivered the goods with a few tasty flake fillets!

OFFSHORE FLINDERS

Keith Diprose from Big Time Fishing Charters headed out on Saturday morning for a mako drift. Skitzy started off in 60m of water out from Flinders with a south westerly blowing at 15 knots. While they were waiting with the big baits out the back, there was plenty of bottom action with pinkies, school sharks and tiger flatties keeping his customers happy. Skitzy ended up with a 60kg mako which put on a good show at the boat! Love ya work mate!

Ash Jackson landed this quality snapper the other week while fishing from the Mornington Pier! Ash’s snapper weighed 6.2kg and was taken on a whole silver whiting using a paternoster set up. Great work mate!

John Brennan’s young daughter, Lilly caught her very first squid while fishing at Fisherman’s Beach. Seeing Lilly’s smile and excitement was something very special for John and it made him very proud to be a dad. Great work Lilly!

The boys from Sharkmen Fishing Charters were back amongst the whiting and calamari action this week. The boys struggled on the kingfish front, but were able to send their clients home with a good feed.

Luke Marchetti caught this fat 1kg squid while fishing from the Portsea Pier this week. Luke also managed a few other smaller squid and his dad also got his hands inky with 4 smaller models. Brown yozuri jigs did the job for the boys. Well done!

Jayson Turner from Pro Red Fishing Charters reports he has had plenty of gummies coming aboard this week ranging from 6-12kg along with some big seven gill’s. There are plenty of pinkies littering the bay at the moment with most fish ranging between 30 and 50cm.

Jason got amongst the gummies while out from Cape Schanck this week. Jason managed this solid fish which took a liking to a fresh slimy mackerel head. Jason was fishing in 40m of water and also landed 2 other sharks of similar size.

Before packing up to head back home, Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters stumbled across acres and acres of bluefin tuna out from Portland last week. Matt was able to get stuck into the fish on light gear which made for some awesome fun! It’s going to be another epic tuna season, that’s for sure!

Mario Vasilev and his friend, George Lagoudakis headed west and fished Lake Bullen Merri last week. The fellas fished with their families and caught several rainbow trout between 1 and 2kg along with some football shaped salmon to 2.65kg. All fish were caught while downrigging with trout pattern hard body lures. Great work boys!

Members from the Berwick Angling club ventured down to Port Welshpool over the weekend and had success with plenty of gummies between 6 and 20kg along with some good snapper to 7.5kg. Fresh bait was the key.

Rob Plant from the Cranbourne Angling Club fished down at Marlo and had a ripper session on the estuary perch. Rob reports his best success came on Zman Grubz in the bloodworm colour.

Dave Mac Manus landed this whopping 8.5lb rainbow trout whilst on a recent trip to the Tassie Highlands. Dave spotted this fish in knee deep water 3 days before he finally landed it! Trout can be very fussy on what they will feed on and it can take quite a while until you find something they will take!

Simon Rinaldi from Red Hot Fishing Charters reports it has been a tough week on the marlin this week with currents changing and majority of the bait disappearing. Simmo had to work very hard for the fish he did manage.
