This week’s “catch of the week” goes to Alex, Marco, Anthony and Luke who landed this beautiful mako on the shelf out from Port Macdonnell. In the midst of taking this photo the boys hooked up to a second mako which was then released boatside. Well done fellas!

Dave, Fee, Kirsten and Maddison are currently in Bergen, Norway and are enjoying a glorious top of -4 degrees! The days are extremely short with sunrise at 9:40am and sunset at 3:45pm but the crew are managing to see heaps of stuff in-between!

Keith Diprose from Big Time Fishing Charters continued his good form on the whiting this week with nice catches all along the spit with a mixed size of fish from 32 to 43cm. Skitzy reports not to forget to put out a squid jig while fishing for whiting because you will be surprised by how many squid are on the same grounds. Love ya work mate!

Mitchell headed out to the Middle Spit with his dad and Uncle Mick for the first time. The trio had a successful session and landed 14 quality whiting. Mitch was stoked with this chunky King George taken on a pipi.

Aleahra Smith and her dad had a great little session out from Yaringa on New Year’s Eve. Aleahra managed these whoppers measuring 46 and 49cm respectively. What a great way to enter the New Year!

4 year old, Koby had his first trip out in the boat with his dad and loved it! Koby caught a good mixed bag including plenty of pinkies and even this early elephant fish which gave Koby a good stretching on whiting gear! Koby is now hooked on fishing and cannot wait to head out again!

Fishing in perfect conditions, Matt landed his first ever gummy shark on New Year’s Eve. Matt was fishing the run in tide using pilchards when this tasty gummy jumped on the end!

Young gun, Jacob Memery landed this lovely Western Port pinkie while fishing with his dad and pop throughout the week.

Damian Whaley caught his first legal gummy during a great session at the Corals. Damian was pleased to land his first after many undersized specimens.

Tate Whaley was ecstatic with himself after he caught his first snapper last Tuesday. Tate has been trying since he was two to land a snapper and he finally did it. Well done mate!

COWES

Jayson Turner from Pro Red Fishing Charters ventured into Western Port last week in search of some big gumbos. Jayson dropped right on the money out from Cowes and landed 2 big girls at 6ft each!

Mick landed this quality gummy while fishing out near Cowes on Friday. Mick reports that she went on the start of the run out and took a liking to some fresh squid.

Kozzi took his daughter Amy out fishing last week in the Cowes area. With whiting in mind, the pair bagged some beauties up to 46cm as Amy proceeded to out-fish her old man.

While he’s been smacking the whiting during the day, Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters has been chasing the big gumbos of a night with plenty of success in the bottom end of the Port. Shaun moved into the New Year smoothly as he put this happy customer onto another big gummy.

While fishing out from Shoreham in search of whiting, Martin landed this 2.1kg flathead on his whiting rig which left him quite surprised! Along with this chunky flatty, Martin also managed a good bag of squid and whiting.

Matt Boulton from Fish On Fishing Charters got amongst the snapper action this week and produced good numbers of pinkies and the odd bigger fish to 4kg while fishing deeper water off Seaford.

Dylan and Rob from Sharkmen Fishing Charters report they have been cleaning up on the calamari in Port Phillip this week. The boys report that most of the action has been coming out of 2-4m of water and red foil jigs have worked the best.

There has been plenty of squid and whiting coming aboard Matt Cini’s Reel Time Fishing Charters this week. Matt has been doing squid and whiting charters for the past couple of weeks now and hasn’t disappointed his customers. The whiting have been hitting pipis and also fresh squid.

Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters found the first of the kings while fishing in perfect conditions offshore before the New Year. Mitch reports although they were smaller fish, they were definitely in good numbers with multiple fishing coming up on the teaser.

Archie set out to complete his wish list over the school holidays and at the top of his list was to catch a murray cod out of the Buffalo River on his grandparent’s property. Just before the New Year, Archie completed his wish and landed this beautiful murray cod while fishing with his dad, Richard. After 5 minutes of fishing in Spot x, Archie hooked into this cod on cheese. Well done boys!

Deki, Adam and Rade ventured up to Thornton in search of trout and the boys didn’t miss! The trio landed 8 fish with the best measuring 47cm. The majority of fish were landed on Vibrax lures.

YARRA RIVER

Chris O’Connell from the Victorian Police Angling Club caught this beautiful murray cod while fishing some upper reaches of the Yarra River throughout the week. Chris landed this beauty on cheese which weighed 5.5kg and measure 74cm. Great work Chris!

Troy Longson of Wyhndam Vale landed his first bream for 2016 while drifting live yabbies in the Yarra. Troy took a quick photo and then released the lovely fish back into the water.

Shane Davidson got amongst the dusky flathead action and landed this big frog while fishing at Lake Tyers this week. Shane landed this 82cm cracker while rolling a hardbody lure in a foot of water. This was his first ever fish on a lure.

12 year old Ella and her dad bagged out on bream this week at Marlo. Ella landed this whopping fish which measured 45cm and was take on a squidgy pro range worm. Well done guys!

Tyler and Brodie got stuck into the flathead and tailor while fishing with Stuart Hindson as the Methers family were on holiday at Pambula Lake. The kids had a ball casting lures for flatties and busting tailor! Great work guys!

Darrell fished the Coorong beaches in South Australia over the break and to his delight, he was rewarded with 4 quality mulloway from the sand. Darrell’s biggest fish measured 85cm.

Alex, Marco, Anthony and Luke had a ripping day out on the shelf off of Port Mac. The boys finished with 10 pink ling, Anthony caught his first mako of 55kg and another joined the party in the midst of taking photos which was then released. Fantastic work fellas!
