There have been some quality schools of Kingfish hanging around Mornington. Nick Lauder went for a dive yesterday and speared this King of around 5kgs. There are plenty in the area but it’s all about being at the right place at the right time! Good work mate.
The crew from Salty Dog Fishing Charters in Port Fairy has been slaying the Kingfish the past couple of weeks and this week was no exception. Most fish are being taken on live baits with the odd exception of surface busting fish whacking poppers and stick baits.
Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters packed up and towed the boat down to Portland this week to get stuck into the Kingfish. Matt reports most of his fish have been coming on live yakka and squid and the new Crucis Hoodlum rods have been standing up to the test.
Martyn Gittens took the Viking Kayak down to Portland again this week and by 8am had this beautiful Kingy on board that measured just a tad over 1 meter. Martyn reports that the calamari for live bait were a little bit harder to find this time around but once getting a few into the live well (that’s right, a live well on the kayak!) it didn’t take long to tempt this nice King. Well played Martyn!

Andrew and Phill had a successful night on the gummies last Thursday and the pair managed a good sized fish each. Pilchard and fresh trevally were the stand out baits.

Young Lucas landed this whopping squid while fishing with his Dad and Pop out from McHaffies Reef on Friday. Lucas’ squid made for some tasty calamari rings!
T-Dogg, Stinger and Seado hit the Port this week and ventured around Somers in search of a gummy or 2. The boys were battered by some average weather but toughed it out and landed this quality 12kg gummy.
Keith Diprose from Big Time Fishing Charters reports he had a great charter on Friday night with some nice gummies caught and lost. There are plenty of gummies in the Port at the moment and these were taken in the Western Entrance. Skitzy reports that fresh yakka chunks have been working best.
The Western Port gummy action has only excelled over the past few weeks and this tasty model was taken in the Western Entrance along with some excellent pinkies.

AROUND THE STATE
