AROUND THE STATE
NELSON
img

The Glenelg River near Nelson has been a hotspot in the Western District of late, estuary perch, bream and mulloway have all been on the chew and have been fired up since the mouth of the river opened. Soft plastics have been working well for lure anglers, but spider crab baits have been bringing the big bream!

LORNE PIER
img
Lorne Pier has been fishing quite well with a good run of squid available under the lights of a night time. There has also been a good number of silver trevally kicking around under the pier with bluebait and pipi being the stand out bait. The odd whiting has also been heard of.
EILDON

img

Lake Eildon has been on fire the past week with the cod going nuts. It’s only expected to get better with all the warm weather about. Anglers have been having good success straight across from the wall and also in the Deletite Arm. Jason King hooked into some rippers while fishing with his old man on Saturday.

GLENMAGGIE
img

Lake Glenmaggie is a popular holiday destination over the Christmas break and it has been fishing quite well the past couple of weeks. The redfin are thick down near the wall, with anglers having good success trolling lures. Carp are undesired, but are good fun to catch on light gear and there has been some big models caught on bread from the bank. It is kept quiet, but the bass action really turns on as the sun starts to go down, with many lure anglers targeting them on surface and cicada style lures.

TIDAL RIVER
img

The mouth of Tidal River at Wilsons Promontory has seen some quality gummies pulled into the sand of a night time. Anglers have also had success on the salmon and occasional whiting during the day. Squid has been the stand out bait.

PORT WELSHPOOL
img

Mad keen fisho, Macen fished with his dad at Port Welshpool over the weekend. Prior to the trip, young Macen told everyone that he was going to catch a shark and then this happened! Macen landed this lovely gummy shark and was over the moon! Great work Macen!

LAKE TYERS
img
Lake Tyers has been fishing exceptionally well which is great, just in time for the Christmas Holidays! Many anglers have been working the shallow banks with soft plastics and vibes to pick up abundances of flatties to 50cm. Some bigger fish have been kicking around with 80cm fish not uncommon.
AROUND THE COUNTRY
MULWALA
img
Diesel and Silvio Grech fished up at Lake Mulwala over the weekend and found some hot murray cod action in and around the structure. Diesel managed a lovely 63cm fish along with some smaller undersized fish and Silvio managed this 70cm model.

WALLAGA LAKE
img
“Big Hoots” landed this solid mulloway while flicking plastics in Wallaga Lake at Bermagui over the weekend. Jewies aren’t an easy species to target and especially not on plastics! Well done mate.
