KINGFISH
THE RIP

Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters continued his good form on the Melbourne Kings this week and found a few crackers in The Rip which were over a metre long! Squid strips and Entice jigs were the stand out bait and lures.

Sharkmen Fishing Charters have also been working The Rip this week and have found some descent Kings. On Wednesday, there were good numbers taken on jigs and squid baits.

CAPE CONRAN

Ryan, Jesse and Nassi headed down to Cape Conran over the weekend. The boys found the fishing a bit tough on Saturday but were rewarded for their patience landing 5 fish to 10kg on the Sunday. All the fish were caught on live slimy mackerel. Top work lads!

Plenty of Kingfish coming from the Montague Island area at Narooma over the past few weeks with fish to well over a metre landed. The boys from Charter Fish Narooma have been jigging up some beauties.

WESTERN PORT
STONY POINT

Keysborough Angling Club had another successful fishing competition on Sunday. The target was whiting this week and 81 fish were landed across the board for a total weight of 27kg! Anglers fished various areas of Western Port as they made the most of the conditions on Sunday morning.

MIDDLE SPIT

Jedd and Wyatt gave the Western Port whiting a bash on Sunday and succeeded with a few thumpers. Jedd and Wyatt managed 7 fish with the biggest measuring 41cm

QUAIL BANK

Staff member Kallan and his old man, Geoff had a successful night on Wednesday when they gave the Western Port King George whiting a bash. The boys had good success with over a dozen landed and half of them were 40cm! Quail bank was the place to be and the instinct whiting prowler rigs dominated with a bit of pipi.

TOP END

Staff member David Kennedy had a short but successful trip on the whiting over the weekend. David has been fishing some deeper areas and reports that the fish he has been catching have been long and fat! David fished with his son Will on Sunday and the boys landed 17 fish with them all nudging 40cm.

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters has been working tirelessly to put some of his clients onto some fish and he has definitely done so! Shaun has been finding plenty of good sized King George whiting up and down the middle spit with pipi and squid the stand out baits. Shaun also reports that the top end of the Port is littered with table sized gummys which are a favourite for most customers!

Ash McMillan scored some quality land based gummys while fishing the low tide at Stockyard Point on Monday. Ash landed 5 gummys and kept 2 for a feed, nice work mate!

Kozzi and Huff have been getting a nice feed of pinkies while fishing out off Cowes this week. The boys report they can’t battle through these pinkies to find the big channel whiting, but at least they are still tasty!

SOMERS

Staff member Jesse and his friends Jacob and Ashely fished Somers beach this week and were happy to land some quality whiting and flathead throughout the night. Squid strips were the key to landing these fish and keeping away from the toadies.

Justin Blythe was back into the gummy action with superb conditions on Wednesday night. Justin headed down to his regular stomping ground on the beach at Somers and after a bit of patience, hauled this beautiful specimen up onto the sand. From there it was like clockwork with the rod got a good workout with another smaller gummy, a banjo and a hard fighting sting ray. Fresh trevally was the key on a running sinker rig.

WESTERN ENTRANCE

Darren Hamilton Moore and his mate Daniel Hatch headed out into Western Port chasing gummys one night this week. After a quick stop to grab some yakkas, the boys headed down to the Western Entrance. The yakka chunks worked a treat with the boys catching 5 fish ranging from 4 to 7kg.

Bailey Foster headed down to Merricks Beach on Friday night in search of a gummy and wasn’t disappointed landing this lovely table sized fish on a chunk of trevelly. The beaches are definitely firing on these gummys!

Toby Young headed out solo on the weekend in search of his first mako. Starting a drift in 50m just south east of Flinders, Toby didn't wait long before this 35kg mako took a liking to his bait. Congratulations Toby.

Chris Bonavia and his young fella Ayden ventured out in their kayak on Saturday and young Ayden brained the squid landing 8 in no time at all! Chris reports it was a fantastic day on the water topped off with some fresh calamari rings that night!

Mark Bonnici and Craig Cameron found a nice patch of hungry school snapper on Saturday morning in 18m out from Mt Martha. Mark and Craig landed fish up to 2.5kg all morning. The standout baits were pilchard and yakka.

SORRENTO

Staff member David Kramer continues to find good numbers of King George whiting out from Sorrento. David fished the run out tide last Sunday as the storm clouds rolled in and landed a nice bag of fish to 40cm using cuttlefish strips for bait.

Now that is a whiting! 58cm this monster measured and it was caught in Port Phillip Bay by Fisheries angler diarist, Russell Shipley. This is definitely a rare capture as most whiting of this caliber are usually found in Western Victoria or South Australia. Upon capture, the fish was shipped off to Fisheries scientists who removed the otoliths for ageing and the thumper turned out to be 9 years old! Very cool!

Garey, Jim, Tracey and Bob were stoked to land this 50kg blue shark while fishing offshore with the boys from Gone Fishing Charters. Blue sharks aren’t the most desired species, but they will give you a good fight!

Now this is an epic capture! Shane Sanders and Brodie Carter boated this massive 195.7kg mako shark while fishing out from Portland. To land this monster on 24kg gear would be an accomplishment, however, the pair managed to catch this beast using only 4kg line! Amazing stuff fellas!

Phillip Jordan headed to Port Fairy over the weekend where he landed a couple of solid bluefin tuna. Phillip was quite impressed with the overall size of the fish. Well done mate.

How’s this 47cm thumper? Tania pulled in this 1.38 kg bream at the Mitchell River on Saturday while using her new rod from Tackleworld Cranbourne. Fantastic catch Tania! What a way christen your new rod!

The boys popped into the shop prior to heading up and were handed a few lures by staff member Harley Scott and it looks like they were the right ones! A Pakula lumo sprocket did the damage on this beauty. Well done fellas!

The Cassar boys, Mark, Matt and Chris were up off Bermi over the weekend and had some success in remarkable conditions. The boys had a double hookup on Sunday morning losing one and landing one. Lovely striped marlin there fellas!

Roy Cusani took the family up to Darwin for a holiday and it looks like they got stuck into some good fishing too! Roy’s wife, Brenda managed this quality 80cm barra and young Gabriella caught a beautiful tea leaf trevally. The trio fished aboard Darwin Harbour Fishing Charters and definitely had a ball!
