PORT MACDONNELL

The bluefin tuna were in full flight over the weekend in the west and it wasn't just the school fish being landed! This 104kg barrel was landed aboard Port Mac Fishing Charters with the whole crew doing their part of landing this beast. Well done to Phil, Michael, Nick, Dillon and Mick. Cracking fish fellas!

Good customer, Tye Ear fulfilled his dream of landing a barrel whilst at Port Mac on Tuesday. Tye was steered in the right direction by staff member Scott Harper who strongly recommended heading to Port Macdonnell over Portland. Tye hooked up this beast while trolling in 65m of water. She weighed in at 105kg. Well done Tye!

Matt Boulton from Fish On Fishing Charters reports there were as many fish as you would like at Portland over the weekend. Matt found most of his fish around the 100m line and the Bonze Bruiser in the Saury colour was by far the stand out lure.

Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters reports that things have definitely heated up in Portland the past week. 4 and 5 way hook ups have not been uncommon for Mitch as he continues to slay the school fish.

Simon Rinaldi’s Red Hot Fishing Charters was in the thick of things while at Portland this week. Simon had to shoot back to Melbourne for the birth of his second son, so Simmo’s old man, Brian stepped in and skippered the second boat which did not miss a beat! Well done to Brian and congratulations to Kinta & Simon on the safe arrival of Bay Luka Rinaldi!

It has been much the same story for Matt Cini’s Reel Time Fishing Charters this week with good amounts of fish landed between the 70 and 100m line. Most fish were hitting bigger skirts this week.

The boys from Southern Peninsula Angling Club had an outstanding trip to Portland over the weekend landing good amounts of tuna. Xrap 15’s, Revolver soft heads and killer vibes were the stand out lures.

Brothers, Rick and Rob had a great outing in the new Stabicraft while at Port Fairy last week. The boys found some good numbers of fish to 25kg roughly 12km offshore. Lovely fish boys!

Jed Florence landed this beautiful 5kg snapper from the Top End of Western Port while fishing with his good mate, Mason Shulze on Saturday. Freshly caught calamari was the trick to this lovely fish.

Daniel McGregor and Anthony Bellia managed some cracking snapper from the rocks at Corio Bay this week. Any snapper is always a good achievement land based and these were some solid fish!

Alexander and his dad, John Dafilis both had a red hot session landing snapper to 7kg in 10m of water out from St Kilda. John reports that pilchards and silver whiting did the job as the sun started to drop. Great work fellas!

The Mornington Pier is fishing very well at the moment as Darren Matthews found out recently. Darren landed this nice 3.5kg snapper off the pier. With these windy conditions, now is the time for land based snapper from Mornington through to MtMartha.

Chloe spent the weekend trolling for tuna with her boyfriend and good friend this week, however the tuna were not to be seen at Apollo Bay! Chloe was pretty happy to land this lovely kingfish on an Xrap 30 to save a donut! Great work Chloe!

Horn Bag from Healesville landed these two 3lb reddies while fishing in the thick timber at Eildon over the weekend. Great fish mate!

Scott and his old man, Winnie fished down at Anderson Inlet this week and Scott was very pleased to land his first gummy shark. Scott reports it took a liking to a fresh trevally chunk. Scott released his gummy to fight another day.

So……the boat ramp is extended and within hours, our good mate Trevor Holmes is at it again. Trev hit the waters of Toolondo in some pretty wet and cold conditions and has been smacking good Browns & Rainbows. Hopefully Toolondo gets some much needed rain, but regardless…Toolondo is well and truly open for business and fishing well.

The swordfish continue down off Tassie when weather permits and this week Mornington customer Kristian Perez and crew were fishing aboard Home Strait when Kristian landed his first broadbill. The fish weighed in at 78kg. Top effort mate!

Scotty Wauchope from Humbug charters continues to get his customers onto some great fish with his mothership anchored in the mouth of the Daly. Cranbourne locals Adam Simpson, Jason Jones, Matthew Knowles, Derren Speas, Peter Wright, Ian Foster and Kev have just had five packed days of unforgettable fishing catching big numbers of Barra, GT’s, Queenies and plenty of reef fish. Well done guys!

Paul gets to fish with some pretty amazing people while filming and in this weekend’s episode of Paul Worsteling’s IFISH with Tackle World he’s with returned veteran Darren Robinson, who is with the Soldier On organisation, doing some great work with our returned forces.

The setting is the Bay of Plenty on New Zealand’s North Island and it’s an early morning start from the wharf at Trinity Wharf Hotel, Tauranga. Robbo’s guns are put to the test as he and Paul battle the mighty NZ Yellowtail Kingfish. The boys are lovin fishing across the Tasman!
