Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters has been getting stuck into the Western Port whiting this week with some good sized fish landed. Mitch reports he had to work hard this week as the fish were patchy, but when he did find the fish they were big and chunky!

QUAIL BANK

Now this is definitely an odd capture for the Quail Bank! Ben Swift was fishing in 10m of water at Quail Bank this week when his rod buckled and he hooked into this quality hammerhead shark! We have seen plenty of juvenile hammerhead’s in Western Port but not often this big! Well done Ben.

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters was back into the gummy action this week and was happy to put Robert and Anna onto a couple of beauties for their wedding anniversary!

Regular customer, Trent Dickinson managed this cracking mako shark while drifting in 40m of water out from Woolamai on Saturday. This is the first bigger mako we have seen locally for the season and hopefully it’s not the only one. Well done Trent!

Mal Harvey and his mate Pete headed out last Wednesday around the Woolamai area in search of some Kingfish which were not to be found, but to the boys delight they did find this bluefin tuna of 8kg!

Jake Follet headed out from Woolamai last week in search of a mako shark. Unfortunately Jake didn’t come across the mako’s but he did land this blue shark which gave him a bit of a tussle for a while!

PORT PHILLIP BAY
MORNINGTON

Jayson Turner from Pro Red Fishing Charters reports that there are plenty of pinky snapper still being caught in the Bay and amongst them have also been some rather large flathead. Jayson has definitely been sending his customers home with a good feed!

Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters reports there are plenty of beautiful King George whiting to be had along the Peninsula at the moment! Matt also said that some big flathead are being caught on the whiting grounds which is great to see as they are delicious! Great work Matt!

We usually hear about the snapper being caught in the deeper areas of the Bay this time of the year, however John Sargent landed this fantastic 64cm specimen while fishing for whiting near Mt Martha.

SORRENTO

Mason Schulze and his mate Jed headed out from Sorrento on Friday night in search of some gummy’s. The pair made sure to spend some time collecting fresh bait before heading to the South Channel and it definitely paid off! Jed was stoked to land this 17kg gummy which was his PB on some fresh squid. Love ya work boys.

Amber Dinnington landed this chunky 2kg 60cm flathead while fishing out off Portsea throughout the week. There’s a couple of nice tails on that one Amber!

It’s becoming more and more evident that The Rip isn’t just a hot spot for Kingfish! There were some incredible captures on Wednesday when TW Cranny customers, Brad Thompson and Andy Walton headed out in search of Kings and found a lot of birds working when they arrived. Switching to trolling, the boys landed some very chunky southern bluefin tuna to 29kg and at one stage had a triple hook up! These beasty bluefin definitely gave the boys a good workout on snapper gear! Well done Brad & Andy!

The boys from Sharkmen Fishing Charters shot out to The Rip last week in search of some Kings and after a bit of persistence with the strong winds, managed to get a couple of drifts in and landed a couple of solid fish. Great work lads.

Glenn Busuttil landed this chunky 43cm whiting while fishing the Kirk Point area. Its great to see so many fat whiting this season in the Bay!

NELSON

Peter Bainbridge and Craig Venables fished the Nelson Nongs annual fishing competition at the Glenelg last weekend. Peter and Craig had a successful trip landing 13 mulloway near the Dry Creek area. All fish ranged from 51 to 61cm and were taken using squid on a running sinker rig.

Paul fished with his Dad and a couple of other mates down at Portland this week and had a ball catching bluefin tuna. The group fished in 30m of water landing 8 fish in total and was smoked by a few much larger fish! Great work boys!

PORT FAIRY

Regular customer, Jason Taylor ventured back down the west coast to Port Fairy over the weekend as he just couldn’t get enough of the top water tuna action! Jason landed plenty of 20+kg tuna near Julia Percy which gave his Murasame Caranx rod a good work out!

Josh Calleja ventured up to the Murray for the first time and while fishing near Cobram, Josh landed this beautiful 47cm yellow belly on a Bassman spinnerbait. Great fish Josh!

Ning Chan and Sasha Sergejew fished at Bemm River this week and with much success landed some beautiful flathead. This brute of a fish landed by Ning was also taken on 4lb line. Great fishing fellas!

TASMANIA

Ian Ketchion landed this whopping 154kg mako shark while fishing offshore near Coles Bay in Tasmania. Ian was fishing with a couple of good mates at the time and after a fair fight, they were all happy to share a beer together! Well done Ian!

Dave Macmanus just got back from his annual Tassie trout trip and reports it was a major success. Dave caught and released in excess of 30 trout ranging from 4lb to 8.5lb and also lost a much larger fish estimated around 10lb! Dave fished a number of central Tassie rivers which were all very healthy and loaded with fat fish!

There are some fantastic numbers of marlin off the east coast with Bermagui being the main hotspot and to many anglers delight, some bigger fish have definitely been in the mix! Sticking it out in the rough weather this week meant plenty of boats reaped the rewards!

Simon Rinaldi and Matty Harris from Red Hot Fishing Charters have been nailing some massive blue marlin while up at Port Stephens this week! Simon and Matty have definitely made a name for themselves the past couple of marlin seasons and their definitely having a ball doing so! Well done fellas!

Olya Borch landed this healthy Kingfish while fishing in the Sydney Heads. Olya has been getting amongst some great Kings and live baits are prompting the bite!

SOUTH WEST ROCKS

Peter Ritchie is a kayak fishing maniac and he has ticked off possibly the pinnacle species of kayak fishing! Pete is in South West Rocks and after putting down a live slimey, a fight time of 1 hour and 25 minutes and after being towed for 4km he landed his first Black Marlin out of a kayak! It weighed 34.5kg and is one of the coolest reports we have seen in a long time! Well done Peter!
