PAUL’S FISHING
img
img
Monster kings were on the agenda for Paul over the last week and New Zealand is the big king capital! Paul has been fishing the north island with the boys from Nomad Sports Fishing New Zealand and they have definitely supplied the goods, however half a king was not what they bargained for! The boys were fishing the reefs, live baiting and jigging when a big mako turned up and stole half their catch! Paul reports that the fishing was insane and recommends the boys from Nomad to anyone heading over to NZ in search of the kings.
SOUTHERN BLUEFIN TUNA
PORTLAND
img

Wayne Sharrock from Sharkmen Fishing Charters had perfect conditions on the weekend to find the fish, but sometimes when the water is flat the tuna are flighty! Sharky still managed to find a handful of fish to send his customers home with a good feed of bluefin.

img
Simon Rinaldi (the tuna whisperer) from Red Hot Fishing Charters has been finding great numbers of school fish this week. The fish aren’t out far so there is no need to travel and there can be some short trips if the weather turns sour. Keep it up Simmo.
img

Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters has continued to put his customers onto the fish this week. Mitch reports the odd bigger fish are mixed in with the schoolies.

img
Anthony Bjorn, Adam and Lez got some lovely school bluefin this week while out on a charter. The boys had a great day in perfect conditions.
img
Not too many big fish have been filtering through the last couple of weeks, but here is one we found. Strangely, this fish was not taken on a lure and it’s not the first time this season! This fish was caught out on the blue eye grounds while doing a deep drop, definitely an awesome fight on an electric reel! Well done to the anglers involved.
img

We forgot to add this report from Shane Schrader last week so we are adding it this week. 2 weeks ago Shane headed down to Portland to chase the tuna on his own for the first time and managed to land four school fish amongst thousands of busting fish. Shane would like to thank Mark and Gerry from Mornington who put him onto the fish, set him up with the right gear and armed him with invaluable knowledge.

WESTERN PORT
TOP END
img

We got sent this photo of Leigh Bomford holding an absolute cracker! We are unsure of all the details, but we are told it is from the top end. Awesome fish Leigh!

JOES ISLAND
img

Matt Jackson fished with his brother at Joes Island on Saturday morning and was stoked with his catch! Matt was fishing in 9m of water when this winter red fell victim to a fresh squid ring about 3 hours into the run out tide. Awesome fish boys.

img

Trent Dickinson called into the shop this week and weighed in this beast of a snapper caught from Joes Island. Trent reports that he put in the time to find some fresh squid before heading to Joes to find the reds and it paid off! Trent’s fish weighed 7.5kg. Great work mate!

TYABB BANK
img

Trent Dickinson managed to get his cracker red pictured above, but he wouldn’t have done it without the fresh bait. Trent put in the time at Tyabb bank in the morning and landed a couple of good specimens before heading up to Joes. Love your work Trent. Black jigs did the damage in 3m of water.

img
Brad and Choff fished the Tyabb bank on Sunday and took home a lovely feed of calamari and there were some chunky models amongst them! Size 3 and 3.5 jigs did the damage.
COWES
img
Young Maxy Moulday from the Berwick Angling Club caught these cracking fish out from Cowes on Sunday morning. Max’s snapper weighed in at 6kg and was caught on pilchard, the gummy was taken on squid. Great fish Max!
WESTERN ENTRANCE
img
Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters put his clients onto the big gumbos this week! Anglers Alan and Shirley landed this beast that weighed 24kg. Great work guys.
FLINDERS
img
Plenty of good sized gummies coming from Western Port’s south, this fish was taken from the Flinders area in 25m and weighed a solid 10kg. A dirty old silver whiting did the job. Great fish!

PORT PHILLIP BAY
SANDRINGHAM
img

Anthony Torpy put in some time off the Sandringham breakwater this week and was rewarded with a good feed of gars. Great work Anthony!

MORNINGTON
img
Young Mornington customer and angler, Lachlan Liu sent us this report of a 1.3m seven-gill shark caught from the Mornington pier on squid. Great catch Lachlan!
img

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big hit up some calamari action off Mornington this week and found some larger specimens. Shaun points out that a good mixture of weed, sand and reef is important to locating good numbers of squid. Red jigs were the stand out.

MT MARTHA
img
We would like to congratulate Tackleworld staff member Gerry Morsman on the capture of this cracking mulloway! Gerry has been fishing out from Martha Cove. He has put in the time and reaped the rewards! This fish weighed 6.3kg and measured 86cm and was caught on fresh squid. Well done G-Banga!
img

Jordan managed to find some cracking salmon to 2kg fishing from the rocks at Mt Martha on Sunday. Jordan reports that the fishing was hot! Pilchard and squid were the best baits.

BLAIRGOWRIE
img

Jordan Robinson landed this lovely squid the other night fishing around the boat moorings at Blairgowrie.

AROUND THE STATE
TOOLONDO
img

Spotters Rep and all round nice guy, Jason Portelli headed up to Toolondo over the weekend to fish with guru Trevor Holmes. Jason reports that the fishing was tough and he didn’t land any fish to nobody’s surprise, but a few fish were landed and they were healthy and big!

TASSIE DEVIL LAKE PACKS
img

The old Tassie Devil has got to be the most popular lure for trolling in Victoria’s trout lakes. The folks at Wigstons have put together a 4 pack of the most popular Tassie’s for several famous trout lakes. Pictured is the Toolondo pack. They are also available in Eildon, Dartmouth, Jindabyne & Eucumbene packs.

STRATHMERTON
img
Ben Hawtin landed his first ever murray cod and what a monster it was! Ben was fishing in the Strathmerton area on the Murray River and landed this beast casting lures into the snags from his canoe. The fish was not weighed, but measured 115cm. The giant was safely released back into the snag. Well done Ben.
EILDON
img
img
Staff member Don Newman is our Western Port whiting man, but this week he has changed it up and headed inland to Eildon. Don has been fishing a few days now and has had success on both trout and cod! Don has been predominantly trolling deep diving hard body lures to locate the cod and tassie devils have been the trout slayers.
PORT WELSHPOOL
img

Kozzi and Huff decided to head back to Port Welshpool this week to try their luck on the flatties. The lads fished around the cliffy islands where they pulled good numbers of flatties to 54cm. The couta were thick and plenty of rigs were lost. Fishing with mono straight to the hook was key, eliminating shiny swivels resulted in less bust offs.

EAST GIPPSLAND
img

Frank Milito from East Gippsland Charters has produced some quality yellow fin bream this week. Frank reports this time of the year you can see more yellowfin inside the estuaries and they are great fun on light gear!

AROUND THE COUNTRY
TASMANIA
img

Michael Haley continues to rack up good numbers of quality bream on the flats at Georges Bay. Small hard bodies such as ecogear sx 40s are working exceptionally.

WAGONGA INLET
img
Mark “Hippie” Carradus of Narooma and his silver slab of a jewfish caught in Wagonga over the weekend.
NAROOMA
img

Abundances of kings are remaining prevalent around Montague Island. The boys from Charter Fish Narooma sent their clients home more than happy with a feed of kings. Metal jigs have been working the best.

DARWIN
img
Grant and Tanya had a great trip up north fishing in Dundee Beach with Anglers Choice Fishing Safaris. The pair had a ball fishing for all sorts of reef species and trevally. Enjoy the warm weather guys, its cold here!!
NEW ZEALAND
img
I wonder what size jigs they were using?.... This is a monster squid, possibly a colossal squid that was hooked off the west coast of Auckland while dropping for sword fish. The team from Pete Jackson's boat C-Crazy had an unusual bite and after a descent fight peeling line from a tiagra 80w the giant surfaced. Unfortunately the hooks pulled before making it to the boat, but a rare sight by all means.
