Tackle World Cranbourne & Mornington Weekly Fishing Report - 26th March
This week's "catch of the week" goes to James Bortolus who managed this beautiful elephant fish caught from Hastings and weighed in at 3.5kg. Well done James!
Grahame and Allan were rewarded with a nice mixed bag out from Grantville this week. Grahame travelled down from Shepparton and took home a lovely feed of flatties, whiting, snapper, gummy and even some sweet garfish! Well done fellas.
Bill Lawrence caught his PB gummy this week out from Warneet in 10m of water. Well done Bill, cracking fish.
Jacob Memery features yet again in the fishing report with this whopping whiting which is almost as big as him! Keep up the great work Jacob.
James Bortolus landed this 85cm elephant fish which weighed in at 3.5kg out from Hastings. James reports that he was fishing the last of the run out tide in about 10m of water using pilchard and squid. James also managed a nice bag of pinkies and flathead.
Huffy and Kozzi took their old mate Robbo out for a whiting bash on Sunday and managed to find him his PB whiting which measured just shy of the magical 50cm. Well done Robbo.
Shaun Furtiere from Think Big fishing charters fished in uncomfortable conditions this week, but managed this nice gummy for Justin who was celebrating his 14th birthday. Great work Justin.
PIPI’s - $10kg
PORT PHILLIP BAY
Melbourne Fishing charters did quite well on the whiting this week fishing from Hampton Bay down to Ricketts point. Most fish have been caught on first light using squid strips.
HALF MOON BAY
Anthony Torpy managed a good feed again this week off Half Moon Bay. Anthony has been spending the time gathering fresh baits such as garfish and mullet and has been reaping the rewards. Great work Anthony.
Paul had a fantastic morning out from Black Rock on Sunday. Paul bagged out on good size snapper in 12m of water and reports that the best bait was squid.
Young Gun Dylan fished off Ricketts point this week with his older cousin and managed a heap of good flatties to 45cm. Dylan looks stoked with this one. Well done.
Customers aboard Jayson Turner’s Pro Red Fishing Charters were sent home happy with a good bag of snapper off Frankston this week. Jayson reports that the fish are still quite deep. Pilchard and squid have been the best bait.
There has been good numbers of big sized squid caught off Mornington this week as Heath Bidgood found out landing this 1.2kg model. IKA monster squid jigs in colour FR05 have been the stand out of late.
Squid and tings! Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters managed to send his client’s home very happy with a lovely bag of squid and whiting. Great work lads.
AROUND THE STATE
Wayne Sharrock from Sharkmen Fishing Charters started his tuna season off in style with this cracker. Portland is on fire. Keep up the great work Sharky.
Matt Prokopiev had some good success on the Murray at Echuca this week. Unfortunately the fish that Matt caught were just undersized and were returned to the water to fight another day.
Glen Ford fished up at Lake Eppalock last week with good results, he landed this cracking redfin and quality yellowbelly using live worms and yabbies.
The prawns are running at Lakes Entrance! Staff member Liz had 3 cracking nights in a row last week and managed a whopping 17kg of quality sized prawns! Great stuff Liz.
AROUND THE COUNTRY
COLES BAY, TAS
16 year old Kyle fished the Coles Bay classic last weekend and landed a fish of a lifetime. The 265kg Broadbill swordfish took 5 hours to land on 24kg gear.
Bill from the Greensborough Angling Club caught this 120kg black marlin at the 12 mile reef on a yakka. Fantastic fish Bill, well done mate!
Theres still plenty of kingfish kicking around off Montague Island when there are breaks in the weather. Reports are saying there are plenty of fish around but it’s been tough.
The East Coast has been on fire lately and Jervis Bay is a hotspot for the kingfish action. Here is a taste of what is on offer at the moment.
Staff members David Kramer and Adam Ring were meant to be in Sydney for work, but while we were stuck in the shop the boys sent us these photos! Adam and Dave fished with Mark Dunphy from shimano and were pleased with a mixed bag of kingys, flatties, pinkies, bream and even squid.
GREAT BARRIER REEF
Paul reports that his recent trip to the Great Barrier Reef with Nomad Sportsfishing was nothing shy of amazing. How about this for a GT?! Well done mate.
