It’s that time of year when the sharks and kingfish come out to play. Tommy Scott landed his first mako off Kilcunda this week and we think there will be a few more over the coming weeks.

WESTERN PORT
EAST ARM

Mason Schulz scored the fish of a lifetime on New Years Day while fishing the East Arm of Western port. He was targeting Mulloway using fresh squid and at 5:30am the reel screamed and the battle begun. 15m later Mason landed this magnificent Mulloway measuring 140cm.
CRAWFISH ROCK

Daniel Redmond hooked this huge wobbegong shark while fishing the top end of Western Port. While it’s not the most glamorous catch, it definitely still deserves a mention!

TOORADIN

John fished the run in tide in the Tooradin Channel this week. In 6 metres of water he landed 11 King George Whiting. Pipi and mussel were best baits.

Young Claire caught some very nice whiting on Wednesday while out with her mum and dad. They report the fish were hard to find but managed a few good ones in the end.
YARRINGA

Staff member Dylan Sutherland fished with Greg Duncan and customers out of Yarringa. They landed a dozen whiting to 44cm and 3 solid squid which were caught on IKA white 3.0 jigs.

Christine was shark fishing out from Yarringa this week. She didn’t quite manage to land a giant, but thought this cute 20cm gummy shark was worth a photo before release.

HASTINGS

Chris and Michael O’Connell from Vic Police Club have been at it again with some good sized whiting to 43cm and pinkies to 39cm while fishing out from Hastings in 15m of water.

MIDDLE SPIT

Luke Jackson landed 17 King George whiting during the week averaging around 35cm. Pipi, squid and mussel were best baits and using Instinct Whiting Prowler Rigs were most effective.
TANKERTON

Brett Smith from Canberra fished off Tankerton this week and landed some thumping whiting to 45cm. All were caught on cocktail baits of pipi and bass yabby.

COWES

John spent New Years eve sitting anchored out the front of Cowes chasing Gummy Shark. He landed 2 gummies to 5kg and also a monster estimated to be 20kg.

WESTERN ENTRANCE

Bob Hee and son Michael went to the Western entrance on Monday and landed two gummy sharks 9.5kg and 11kg. The baits used were eel and fresh salmon fillets.

PORT PHILLIP BAY
HALF MOON BAY

Anthony Torpy went fishing at Half Moon Bay on Tuesday afternoon for a couple of hours and got seven nice Australian Salmon around the 800g mark. Blue bait was the best bait.
CARRUM

Jayson Turner from Pro Red Charters reports good numbers of snapper to 6kg are still schooled up in the bay at the moment. 19 to 22m of water is good and pushing down to areas like Mt Martha have also been productive. Best baits this week have been pilchard and silver whiting.

Lino from Bait N Go angling club caught a 6kg snapper fishing deep off Mt Martha this week.

Wayne fished in 15m off Mount Martha this week and landed an 84cm and a 65cm snapper on squid just on sunrise.

SORRENTO

Connor Cassar and cousin Antonio came across some good salmon while trolling lures on the way in to Sorrento after a morning squid session.

Jason Taylor got some lovely calamari while fishing the southern part of Port Phillip Bay this week.

ST LEONARDS

Sam Riggio and Daniel Burrowes saw out the new year by fishing deep off St Leonards. They landed a 5kg snapper using squid for bait at the end of the run out tide.

ALTONA

Luke Baratta fished out from Altona with his dad on Sunday and got onto a school of Australian Salmon for a hot session. In 10m of water the guys used pilchard for bait.

AROUND THE STATE
OFFSHORE

Staff member Luke McCredden and Aussie cricketers Will Sheridan, James Pattinson and Cameron White headed offshore this week and caught rat kingfish on poppers and hard body lures. Strada Tracka and Strada Howlers did the damage.
The boys report that the water offshore around Barwon Heads is looking great.

Tommy Scott landed his first Mako Shark of 20kg which he caught in 67m of water off Kilcunda. The shark took a whole salmon bait.

John caught this bream on a vibe while fishing at Mallacoota this week. It went 40cm.

Greg Motton caught this Murray Cod at Echuca. It measured 72cm and was caught on a diving hard body lure.
MITCHELL RIVER

Adrian was trolling a pink Tassie Devil Lake Wendouree on Monday and caught this 56cm, 2kg Brown Trout.
