There’s been a few fishable days this week and Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters has definitely made the most of it. Mitch cleaned up the school fish and sent his customers home with some quality fillets.

Well done to Simon Rinaldi and the crew aboard red Hot Fishing Charters who boated this monster 125kg bluefin out of Portland on Saturday. The boys landed this fish not long after busting off another jumbo. Michael Day was the lucky angler on the rod.

Darren Brown, James Murphy and good friend of the shop, Dougie Bauer snuck down to Portland on Saturday in a last minute decision which definitely paid off! The boys hooked up to this fish in 25m of water which put on a show for 2.5 hours. 110kg was the final weight. Well done fellas!

The bluefin on the East Coast have definitely slowed down, however, locals continue to dominate the albacore!

WESTERN PORT
MIDDLE SPIT
img
Shaun Furtiere from Think Big fishing Charters has been having good success on the winter whiting in both Western Port and Port Phillip. Shallow water seems to be where the whiting are congregating to keep warm and fatten up. Great work Shaun!

FLINDERS
img
Peter Kasidiaris and his father, Spiro managed this quality bag of squid from a single drift at Flinders over the weekend. Red foil jigs did the trick.

AROUND THE STATE
HAZELWOOD PONDAGE (MORWELL)
img
The scientists and Fisheries have been at it again this week electrofishing Hazelwood Pondage to check the growth rates of the Barra. This one measured 65cm and weighed 5.3kg. Not a bad growth rate from 30cm and 500g back in April.

LAANECOORIE
img
How cool is this?! Peter Honebone was working on the Loddon River below Laanecoorie Reservoir and stumbled across hundreds of Murray cod stuck in the tiny pools! Peter hand caught this whopper for a quick happy snap. All fish were healthy and un harmed.

EILDON PONDAGE
img
Phil Shannon spent the day at the Pondage on Saturday and was rewarded with this beautiful 2.2kg rainbow. Scrub Worms and corn have been the stand out baits.
