MORNINGTON PIER
img
Mornington Pier has continued to fire and has proved you don’t need a big boat to catch big fish! Matthew Schemeczko landed this fantastic kingfish from the pier using his Shimano Pelagic Nano rod and a Saragosa 8000. Mathew reports that even though this wasn’t the biggest of kingfish, it sure gave him a good work out! Fresh squid was the key.

PORTLAND

Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters had a day to remember while out from Portland. Mitch was filming with the boys from AFN and it was an epic session with both top water kingfish and tuna! Mitch reports there was no lack of fish and these 2 weighed 12 and 13kg respectively.

img
Viking pro staffer, Martyn Gittens, took the kayak up to Portland last week to have a crack at the Kingies. Martyn was paddling around with a couple of live squid out the back and had no dramas finding fish, keeping them on the hooks was the hard part! Martyn had 5 solid hook-ups for just the one good Kingy landed but not a bad effort for Martyn’s maiden voyage to Portland in the Viking!

COWES
img
Keith Diprose from Big Time Charters had a successful outing this weekend on the Port. Skitzy had a good charter Friday night, starting at Elizabeth Island where after a half hour fight, unfortunately lost a bronzie of around 45kg. As the tide slowed, Skitzy headed over to Cowes where his customers were rewarded with a nice gummy on a bonito chunk. Sunday's species was whiting along the spit, fish were a bit finicky but the good old mussel and squid strip got them going. There were also plenty of small pinkies in the area.

WESTERN ENTRANCE
img
Rodney Hee had a cracking day on Saturday landing this whopping 18kg gummy while fishing with his son, Mitch and Dad, Bob. The trio fished the Western Entrance after catching a few slimeys earlier. The fresh bait definitely paid off and Rodney came up tight with this beauty that fell victim to a slimey head with a 9/0 circle hanging out of it. 45 minutes later, the boys also landed a quality 5.5kg fish. Great day on the water fellas!

OFFSHORE
