STAFF PROFILE – ADAM RING
img

Adam Ring started at Tackle World Cranbourne back in 2006 when he had little fishing experience, but wow has that changed in 9 years. After 7 years at our Cranbourne store, Adam transferred down to Tackle World Mornington as Store Manager, and from the day we got the keys to an empty building to the successful store Mornington is today, Adam has led the Mornington team well. Recently, Adam has branched out into the fishing media too, and is a permanent host on C31’s Talking Fishing TV as well as a regular fill in for Paul Worsteling on the 3AW Fishing Show.

Adam’s favourite form of fishing is light tackle lure fishing targeting specifically a range of estuary species such as bream, perch and flatties, however any sort of lure fishing gets his blood pumping and it is something he is very passionate about. Adam has a lot of experience in most forms of fishing; he has spent many days on the water chasing whiting and snapper with good friend, Mick Rentlo and has spent a lot of time in the Gippsland region with Mitch Chapman targeting bream and perch. Adam is a gun when it comes to knowledge on fishing gear; whether it’s the latest and greatest, old and antique or an elite piece of specialist tackle, Adam’s knowledge is second to none.

If you want to meet a genuine great bloke with knowledge many would die for, get in to Tackle World Mornington and say hello to Adam; you can’t miss him, he’s 8 foot tall and reckons he put on 5 kilos this year.

WESTERN PORT
JOES ISLAND
img
Chris Bowden managed this cracker winter red over the weekend while fishing at Joe’s. Chris reports that he got the job done with a whiting head, a much underrated bait for snapper! Love your work mate.
TOORADIN
img

It has always been a well kept secret but there is definitely some quality bream kicking around at the back of Sawtells Inlet in Tooradin. Chris Slevison landed this cracker fish measuring 42cm on a piece of chicken while targeting mullet. Chris took a few happy snaps before returning it back to the water. In order to keep these little systems going, it is important to return those big ones to live another day and produce more for years to come. Great work Chris!

TYABB BANK
img
Bent Rod Squad members, Stinga and Andrew spent a day on the Port this week. Prior to heading down south for a gummy, the fellas spent some time around Tyabb bank where they jigged up some lovely calamari and found some snook on the troll. We like the look of that esky, however their taste of brew is somewhat disappointing!
NORTH ARM
img
There has been plenty of winter red’s kicking around over the past week as Owen Thompson found out. Owen landed this cracking snapper over the weekend on pilchard while fishing in Western Port’s North Arm. Lovely fish mate!
POINT LEO
img

The boys from the Bent Rod Squad have been getting the job done in Western Port this week. After success with bait collection in the top end off Tyabb Bank, they turned their snook and calamari into this cracker feeder gummy. Great work Benders!

FLINDERS
img
The Mad Scotsman landed this lovely 10kg gummy over the weekend while fishing in 25m of water near Flinders. A skanky old silver whiting did the trick, well done mate!

PORT PHILLIP BAY
NEWPORT

img

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters managed to get some good bags of squid for his clients this week and there is definitely some quality sized models kicking around. Natural coloured jigs have been the stand out.

AROUND THE STATE
PORTLAND

The barrels have not disappeared in the West! Brendan Osbourne came home with a cracker landing this fish at Portland in 100m of water. The Day after landing his beast, Brendan headed out to the same spot and got a triple hookup on big fish, fighting one for more than 3 hours but were all unfortunately lost. Awesome news for those heading down in the next week or so! Well done Brendan!
img

Ben and Leanne Gyrney and their two children Alana and Ella got onto this cracker bluefin of about 60kg taken in the 100m line out of Bridgewater Bay. Awesome stuff and great family photo guys!

APOLLO BAY
img

Wombat Burrows landed this beast of a tuna over the weekend while fishing out of Apollo Bay and the best part was that it was landed on spin gear! Wombat hooked into this cracker weighing in at 95kg while trolling a red skirted lure with his 7ft T-curve rod and Saragossa 25,000 loaded with 50lb Dogtooth braid! What a battle he had on his hands, love your work mate!

HOPKINS RIVER
img

Scotty Gray has been hitting the lower reaches of the Hopkins River this week and managed to pull this cracker brown on a Rapala F-7. Awesome fish Scott, keep em coming!

TOOLONDO

img

Alex Stevicic landed this 55cm brown while chucking soft plastics at Devilbend. There are some cracker fish to be had in this lovely little lake, it is a tough place to fish, but landing a fish is definitely rewarding!

INVERLOCH
img

Local fishing legend, Brian Rinaldi headed down to Inverloch over the weekend and had a ripper session spinning for salmon inside Anderson's Inlet. While fishing at Pensioners Point Brian was blown away by the staggering amounts of salmon to 2kg! 200+ fish were caught between a group of them.
Well done to Brian and Cranbourne Angling Club

TAMBO RIVER
img
Good friends of the shop, Paul and Rex Delisle headed down to the Tambo for the weekend and slayed some quality bream! The boys report that they caught and released 40 fish with the average size of 32cm. Sandworm did the job in the bait department. Great work boys!
LAKES ENTRANCE
img

The boys from Far Out Fishing Charters got back out amongst the pinkies and various other reef species this week, although they report it has been tough with size of fish being significantly smaller than previous weeks.

AROUND THE COUNTRY
ST KILDA, ADELAIDE
img

These two monster bream were taken by Drago Visnjic while fishing from his kayak in a skinny water way near Adelaide. The biggest fish measured a whopping 50cm! Wow, huge fish mate well done!

img

Tom from Rockhampton sent through this photo of what we believe is a black jew taken from the Fitzroy River. Definitely a different looking fish!

AIRLIE BEACH
img

Another Bent Rod Squad member, Jeremy Wade got amongst the action while casting surface lures and stick baits at busting schools of queenies. Great work mate!

WONGA BEACH
img

Shayne O’Connor has been lucky enough to be on holiday at Wonga Beach with his family this week and he sent through this photo of a cracker diamond trevally weighing 8kg. Not as nice as Melbourne weather by the looks of it……

THIS WEEK ON IFISH TV
img
Aitutaki, Cook Islands
This Sunday 16th August on ONE at 5.30pm
On Paul Worsteling’s IFISH with Tackle World this Sunday, Paul is joined by his good mate Casey Stoner for a day’s fishing with GT’s in their sights. The location is the spectacular island of Aitutaki, one of the Cook Islands group in the South Pacific. The Aitutaki lagoon is the colour of turquoise and the GT’s with their distinctive black dots are visible against the sand. The boys can see them but can they catch them? There must be something in the water because Paul even gets his dancing shoes on!
