Tackle World Cranbourne & Mornington Weekly Fishing Report - 30th June
This week’s “catch of the week” goes to Toby, Mitch and Paul who scored themselves a Hat-Trick of barrels while fishing with the boys from Port MacDonnell Fishing Charters. Cracking fish guys!
Both Tackle World Cranbourne and Tackle World Mornington have made it as finalists in Australia’s Best Bait and Tackle Store Awards for 2016. We are very proud of what we do and love bringing our loyal customers success in fishing. We pride ourselves on our customer service, our product range and the ability to help you catch a fish. We would love if you could take a couple of minutes to cast a vote our way.
Matt Boulton from Fish On Charters was glad to have some good weather over the weekend and made the most of it by nailing some more beautiful bluefin tuna. There are still plenty of fish in close so no need to head to the shelf!
Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters was able to land plenty more bluefin this week and was even able to let his customers have a bit of fun chucking stick baits at busting fish on light gear. Doesn’t get much better than that!
Portland was definitely kind to Simon Rinaldi and Matty Harris from Red Hot Fishing Charters this week as they continued to dominate the tuna scene. It doesn’t look like slowing down anytime soon!
Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters reports the tuna have been hitting hard with the break in the weather. Matt has had no troubles locating school fish and said that Xraps have been working well.
The crew from Sharkmen Fishing Charters continued their success on the Portland tuna this week and reported there were as many as their clients wanted! It can definitely make for a nice short day when you bag out before 10am!
Port Mac went off its head this week with plenty of jumbo tuna landed including a Hat-Trick by Port MacDonnell Fishing Charters on Sunday. Toby kick started things with a lovely 65kg followed by a double hookup of 100kg+ fish for Mitch and Paul. Crazy stuff fellas, well done!
The pros have found the big bluefin on the East Coast off Tathra this week so we expect to see the rec anglers getting amongst them! Definitely exciting times when there are multiple monster tuna feeding at the back of your boat!
Staff members Kallan and Dave braved the icy conditions on Saturday and headed out on the Port in search of a winter snapper. After failing to land any squid, the boys were forced to drown some smelly old pilchards which were not turned down! Kallan landed this lovely winter specimen weighing 5.6kg.
It’s great to see anglers braving the cold and managing a feed! Lance, Heath, Matt and Ben managed some beautiful snapper this weekend along with a pretty decent seven gill shark out from Stoney Point.
The big gummies are definitely still about as Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters found out during the week. Greg and Chris hopped aboard with Shaun and weren’t disappointed landing 5 gummies in total which were all released. Well done guys!
Peter Kasidiaris fished off the Flinders Pier last week and was very happy to be rewarded with 6 quality calamari on natural coloured jigs. Great effort land based Peter!
PORT PHILLIP BAY
The Black Rock area has been producing plenty of small pinkies which can be great fun on light gear. It is not uncommon to land 30 or 40 fish of an afternoon on small soft plastics this time of the year so get out and give it a crack!
It’s pretty cold, but if you don’t mind rugging up, there are some good amounts of garfish hanging around the Seaford Pier lately. Silverfish and maggots are working well in a thick berley trail.
AROUND THE STATE
Michael Evans from Geelong headed to Wurdibuloc Reservoir on Saturday where he managed to land this chunky 50cm redfin on a Nories metal spoon. Michael has recently started up a land based guiding service called Last Cast Fishing Tours. Keep em coming Michael!
Phil Shannon drowned some Powerbait up at the Pondage this weekend and landed some lovely rainbow trout while doing so. Phil also reported that berley was the secret.
The salmon have well and truly turned up in the deep gutters at Gunnamatta. Yellow and red poppers have been working for the bait guys and almost anything shiny has been slaying the fish for the lure anglers.
AROUND THE COUNTRY
EAST COAST TASSIE
For those anglers willing to brave the cold, there are still Swords to be had off the east coast of Tassie. These boys fished out of Triabunna last weekend and found this nice sword to make their mission complete. Well done guys!

When an egg floats in water, it is “off” and should not be eaten.
Good luck with your fishing and stay safe on the water,
