Saiychol Peake landed this quality calamari while fishing in Hanns Inlet near Hastings. Saiychol was lucky enough to be fishing in some superb conditions on Monday.

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters nailed some quality whiting around the Middle Spit area and the size of the fish have been respectable with plenty around 38cm. Pipi and squid strips are working a treat!

John Italiano caught his first legal gummy shark in Westernport on Saturday while using freshly caught Barracuda as bait. The gummy was around 97cm long, a perfect table fish. Great job mate!

Talk about beginner's luck! Peter Barwick landed this 5kg snapper out from Corinella this week and it was Peters first time ever out fishing and we don't think it'll be his last! Awesome fish Peter!

Congratulations to Marlon Blackford on catching this lovely School Shark est around 18kg. Marlon was fishing with his father Tony in 5mt of water near Rhyll when his rod screamed off. After some very nervous moments and a few tangles the fish was eventually boated. Fresh squid did the damage at the start of the run out tide. Great job Marlon

Baz Rushford headed out from San Remo on Sunday with his son Mick and landed this beautiful 6kg snapper along with some lovely whiting. Not bad for an 84 year old! Well done Baz!

OFFSHORE

Kozzi, Bucky and Parto took advantage of the glass calm conditions last week and decided to head 30km south of San Remo to Cody Bank is search of the big flatties renowned for the area. After 2 hours of travel, the boys got to their destination and had plenty over 50cm in the boat in no time. The boys also report that there were masses of arrow squid until Sammy the seal showed up.

Staff member David Kramer headed down to Queenscliff for a bit of a testing session on the new IKA squid jig colors just released, and wasn’t disappointed with the results. Casting IKA jigs into shallow reef, David landed good numbers of calamari on a variety of colored jigs in size 3.

There was a big school of chunky salmon kicking around the Williamstown area as Marcel found out on Saturday. Marcel loaded up on salmon and then headed to T19 where he also landed some quality snapper. Love ya work mate.

Onay Basel went out from Sandringham for a Sunday session and landed a 6.5kg snapper! What a healthy looking fish great work mate!

Good customer Daniel Griffin took his boat into the Patterson Lakes system over the weekend to smack some big blue nosed bream and succeeded with this fatty taken on a Cranka crab. Nice fish mate!

Simon Rinaldi and Matty Harris from Red Hot Fishing Charters have been getting stuck into the reds this week and plenty of fish have been landed on both boats! The majority of fish are ranging from 2 to 4kg with the odd bigger fish in the mix.

Zac Bonnet fished aboard Red Hot Fishing Charters this week in 15m of water out from Carrum and landed this healthy snapper on silver whiting. Zac was stoked with his catch, well done mate!

Check out this 74cm snapper Chris O'connell caught on Sunday afternoon. He fished out from Frankston in 15 meters of water and was using a snapper snatcher rig and it got the job done nicely!

Jayson Turner from Pro Red Fishing Charters has had some good success in the Mornington area this week with plenty more snapper coming aboard for his customers. Pilchard and squid have been the stand out baits.

Jake Griffin paddled his kayak out from Mornington this week and while throwing 5” gulp minnows, he landed this lovely pinky and lost plenty more. Jake also reports he landed a whiting on the same 5” plastic! Awesome stuff mate.

There’s been some good amounts of fish coming aboard Matt Cini’s Reel Time Fishing Charters and Matt reports there is a good spread of fish out from Mt Martha. There was some cracking weather this week and the snapper seemed to enjoy it also!

OFFSHORE BARWON HEADS

Good customer Wayne ventured out from Sorrento and fished the Barwon Heads area after finding some good reef on the sounder, but after being plagued by pickers, Wayne decided to drift for some flatties and did quite well landing 12 large ones, a few calamari and this lovely thresher shark. Well done mate!

MORWELL (HAZELWOOD PONDAGE)

Alex Xuereb headed to Hazelwood to try his luck on a Victorian barramundi and to his delight he succeeded when he landed this beautiful 50cm specimen on a shallow diver. Well done mate!

Staff member Harley decided to get amongst the Vic barra craze! Harley landed multiple barramundi from 30-45cm. Harley said they pull hard for a smaller fish and jump around like one of the big ones! Great work mate!

Staff member Jesse Matthias snuck down to Hazelwood Pondage in search of his first big Barra. Jesse landed 5 mid 40cm Barra using Strada Shallow Diving lures. Great way to kick off the opening!

Mornington staff member Zach McMahon hit Hazelwood Pondage in the wee hours of the morning for a cracker land based session on the Barra. Zach reports the fish are prolific near the shoreline, with all his fish taking the lure within 15m of the shore. Zach said he had to walk the banks to find the fish, but once he found them, it was game on.

Silvio headed back to Lake Nillacootie this week and while fishing on Tuesday arvo he landed this beautiful 75cm cod right before the storm rolled in. Well done mate!

Staff member David Kramer headed up to the Broken River 20 km from Shepparton over the weekend where he bunked with Steve Threlfall on the banks of the river. The boys had a good session on the Murray cod landing some beautiful specimens. Codger 55 in purple did the job on these iconic fish.

Drew "Snacks" Jackson and Paul Harcus landed this absolute stonker of a Murray cod while fishing at Lake Eildon last Wednesday. Drew’s monster measure 110cm and weighed 35kg before being released. Fantastic fish fellas!

Noumea, New Caledonia

In the vast southwest Pacific Ocean lies the archipelago of New Caledonia and it is from the Port Moselle Harbour Noumea, the Worsteling’s set forth on a Charter World Fishing Holidays catamaran, for a family fishing trip.

They headed south to the legendary Isle of Pines where crystal clear waters and white sandy beaches awaited them. But it was on the way they had the best fun a fishing family could have.

They were delighted by the eclectic range of species they encountered along the way, especially the surprise appearance of a gentle giant of the sea. The relaxing life on board the charter boat made it all the more special for the Worsteling’s, who love nothing more than being together, having fun and of course, fishing!

Who would have thought you would ever see the day when you could catch Barramundi in Victoria!!

Well that day came on December 9, 2016 and eager anglers lined up for their chance in Victoria’s first ‘barra’ bonanza.

In April 2016, Fisheries Victoria put 7000 of these incredible sportsfish in the Hazelwood Pondage, Morwell, which is kept warm by the Hazelwood Power Station .. and they thrived.

In this awesome IFISH episode on Sunday at 5.30pm on ONE, Paul is joined by FutureFish Foundation’s, David Kramer, as they team up and go in search of the elusive, iconic Aussie species, the mighty Barramundi.

It’s a picture perfect day on the Pondage and the boys are hoping to see ‘chrome’ come up through the water. A sight Paul never tires of seeing!
