AFL GRAND FINAL LONG WEEKEND
img

LONG WEEKEND HOTSPOTS
LAKE TYERS
Lake Tyers is fishing exceptionally well for both flathead and bream. Land based guys have been having great success on flathead to 60cm. There are quite a few tailor in the system which are great fun for the kids, but quite painful when you are losing expensive bream lures! Try 20-40gram Arma metal lures rigged with a wire trace to stop those teeth.

LORNE
There are good reports of salmon coming from the Lorne Pier the past couple of weeks, they haven’t been in massive numbers, but they have been up to 1kg. Plenty of calamari are also being caught under the lights of a night time.

PORTLAND
Big tuna are still all the rage down at Portland which is always great to see, but if you don’t have access to a boat this long weekend, the Lee Breakwall is fishing very well for snapper.

LAKE EILDON
The Murray cod scene has been a little bit slow the past week, but we think this may be due to anglers focusing on this fantastic run of trout! Anglers are having good success landing some beautiful brown trout on the troll with pink tassie devils being the stand out lure.
img
If you’re fishing the Pondage, 100 brown and 100 rainbow ex-brood stock averaging 2 – 3 kg have been released this week. Make sure you have the gear to handle a big one if your fishing the Pondage.

PHILLIP ISLAND
The surroundings of Phillip Island are fishing quite well and there are plenty of options! Woolamai is seeing good amounts of salmon to 750grams with guys producing the bulk of fish from the first beach on metal lures. Cowes pier is definitely worth a go for the squid as there were some fresh ink stains the other day!

img
There is plenty of snapper action to be had in Western Port according Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters. Corinella seems to be the hot spot and fresh squid is doing the damage.

img

Joshua Western from the Boronia Sport Fishing Club struggled to hold up his catch from the weekend and we can see why as it was a whopper! Josh’s snapper weighed 5.97kg and was taken at Corinella.

img
Colin Sires managed this 5.3kg red while fishing off Corinella with Shaun Furtiere aboard Think Big on Friday morning. Colin reports a fresh squid ring did the job in glass calm conditions.

img
Chris Barker was stoked when he landed this 7kg snapper on silver whiting while out from Altona this week. Great fish Chris!

MT MARTHA
img
Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters switched tactics this week and decided to focus on the snapper. Matt found some solid fish out from Mt Martha, although not huge, they are great fun to catch!

PORTSEA
img
Finny Culmer cleaned up on the squid while fishing from the Portsea Pier with his dad. Finny was using the Tackle Rat rod and reel which Paul Worsteling gave him at the Casey Fields fishing day. Great to see you are making good use of it!
