Tackle World Cranbourne & Mornington Weekly Fishing Report - 19th March
This week's "catch of the week" goes to young gun Jamieson Stephens with this whopping Murray cod caught out of Eildon. Well done mate, love your work.
Staff members Garry and Gerry ventured down to Lang Lang Sunday afternoon and had a hot little session on the gummys. The pair fished with a couple of other mates and managed 3 fish right on high tide.
Gavin Methers must be getting sick of the rest of the family getting their face in the fishing report, so he sent through this photo of a cracking gummy he caught on a slimey fillet in the top end of Western Port. The fish weighed in at 16kg. Great work Methers!
Mikey was very pleased with this 42cm whiting he caught from the middle spit this week. Pipi and mussel were the best bait.
Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters took some customers out this week who have travelled all the way from Russia and they weren’t disappointed. Check out this fat whiting! Best bait has been squid.
Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters found plenty of whiting for his customers around the Middle Spit but reports the fishing has been tough. Best baits have been pipi and squid cocktails.
Steve Johnston from Ace Fishing Charters got amongst the gummy action this week and sent his client’s home very happy! Steve Reports there are still plenty of whiting about off Hastings and also down around Tankerton.
Tom Gibson caught his first ever whiting off Flinders which measured 42cm. Great fish Tom.

PORT PHILLIP BAY
Anthony Torpy features yet again in the report this week; he fished the Sandringham breakwater and managed these mullet and a nice garfish all on chicken.
There are abundances of small pinkies inside the Patterson River system at the moment after dark. Best baits have been squid strips.
Wayne Phipps had a great session on the calamari off Mornington last Friday. Wayne reports that he was fishing in about 4m of water and orange jigs in size 2.5 did the damage. The biggest squid weighed in at 1.2kg.
Matt Cini from Reel Time Fishing Charters got his clients onto the whiting this week off Mt Martha. Matt also found some quality blue spot flathead. YUM YUM.
AROUND THE STATE
Dougie Bauer headed to Portland earlier this week and was rewarded with some early bluefin tuna. Plenty of school sized fish between 5 and 10kg are kicking around, but there are reports of the odd bigger fish to 30kg.
Greg Imlach and his son Shannon had a blast camping and fishing at Lake Toolondo last week. Greg managed a 5.25 and 4lb brown trout and Shannon caught a nice 5lb Brown. Well done boys, cracking fish.
Adrian got amongst some nice trout at Lake Wendouree this week landing 2 rainbows to 40cm and a brown that measured 50cm. Adrian reports there are also plenty of redfin in the lake too and have been falling victim to his Tassie Devils.
The Barwon River has been fishing exceptionally well lately as Hayden found out. Hayden landed these cracker bream along with plenty others all on bass yabbies.
5 year old Jamieson Stephens out fished his dad in the Goulburn Arm at Eildon on Saturday with this cracking Murray Cod. Jamieson went on to catch another later that day.
Keysborough Angling club spent the weekend down at Port Welshpool. Ron Mason caught this lovely seven gill shark and Dave Jacobsen and Paul Gallop managed a good feed of flathead and gummies.
Ebony Tanti from the Happy Hookers Fishing Club with her very first gummy shark which weighed in at 4.7kg caught off of Woodside. Great work Ebony!
Young Tom May caught this cracker 40cm bream out of Lake Tyers on the weekend. Great work Tom! We suspect there will be plenty more in years to come.
Wayne Ward managed his personal best flathead which measured 57cm caught out of the mouth of the Snowy River on bluebait. The fish was released after a quick pic.
Frank Milito from East Gippsland fishing charters got the job done once again for his customers this week finding abundances of bream and plenty of good tailor amongst them. Soft plastics have been the stand out lately and the Fuze Triple Tail plastics are a bream slayer!
AROUND THE COUNTRY
Justin fished with his mate Anton in the Alliance Tag and Release Tournament at Bermagui last week with success. Justin hooked and landed his first ever marlin which fell victim to a lumo Topgun lure on 15kg gear. The fish was then tagged and released. Well done fellas.
The kings were on fire this week off of Montague Island. Good numbers of small size fish are abundant with the odd big fish kicking around. Dogtooth Skirted Jigs are a great way to target these kings.
3AW FISHING SHOW - EVERY FRIDAY @ 7pm
No 3Aw Fishing this week due to the NAB Cup coverage, but the boys will be back next Friday.
