This week’s “Catch of the week” goes to good customer, Rex Delisle with his PB murray cod from Eildon. Rex and his old man, Paul have spent many weekends travelling to Eildon in search of the iconic cod and last weekend they cracked the code landing two crackers of about 8kg. Well done Rex!

Chris Preston fished with his good friend, John Macleod and girlfriend, Tiff Andrews on Saturday night in search of a feed of fresh flake. Tiff out fished the boys and landed her PB gummy! Chris reports it was a lively night with plenty of rays and seven gills also prevalent. Fresh whiting chunks produced the majority of fish for the night.

Logan Perna headed out from Warneet on Sunday and got stuck into the whiting with his old man, Ric. The boys had a hot session and Logan landed this beauty of 44cm.

NORTH ARM

Mick fished the entirety of Saturday night leading into Sunday morning and was rewarded with some quality snapper including this fish which weighed 8.2kg and measured 89cm. Mick sounded up some solid arches in the North Arm and finally got them to chew. He managed 5 snapper in total.

MIDDLE SPIT

Keith Diprose from Big Time Fishing Charters reports there has been some great whiting action this week on the Port with fish to 47cm not uncommon. The Middle Spit and surrounding areas are all holding good fish. Skitzy said don’t be afraid to venture into the deep water on a slack tide for those big whiting. Best bait has been mussel and squid cocktails and berley is a must to keep the fish interested.

Young guns, Jedd and Bayley managed a good feed of Western Port Whiting throughout the week. Jedd landed this quality 43cm model and the pair landed 18 fish in total. Great work fellas!

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters has returned home to Western Port as things are starting to heat up on the whiting front. Shaun hit up some of his favourite spots this week and did not disappoint sending his customers home with handfuls of skinless fillets! Great work Shaun!

Ben Kerian got amongst the Western Port snapper action and found this beauty lurking around the bottom end of the Port in the darkness. Lovely fish mate, well done!

Viking Kayak pro staffer, Martyn Gittens, took his Viking Reload for a paddle around Flinders during the week. The squid fishing was a little tough but Martyn did manage a few quality calamari. Size 3.0 jigs were definitely the best. Matt Boulton from Fish On Charters capitalized on the reds after a couple of days of rough weather. Matt reports that he found some good quality fish in about 15m of water, and after the blowy winds, it was on for young and old! Pilchard and silver whiting were the stand outs for Matt.

Mitch Bertacchini from Online Fishing Charters was able to enjoy some glass calm conditions on Sunday and he also found the fish which made for some very happy customers. Mitch reports these fish were around the 5kg mark and were taken on pilchard.

Simon Rinaldi from Red Hot Fishing Charters produced some great snapper fishing once again this week. Wednesday morning, the Oram brothers hopped aboard and were pleased with their efforts nailing a couple of bigger fish around the 5kg mark.

There were a few tough days this week aboard Matt Cini’s Reel Time Fishing Charters. However, Matt worked through the bad weather and slow fishing to put his clients onto some tasty Melbourne snapper. Matt has been using Shinto Octopus Lumo Hooks this season with some excellent results.

There were mixed sized fish aboard Sharkmen Fishing Charters this week with snapper ranging from just size to 4kg. From all reports the boys had an eventful evening on Sunday and the fish went nuts! Keep up the great work fellas!

Chelsea Ticarico landed her very first snapper over the weekend which measure 68cm and was caught on a whiting rod loaded with 4lb line intended for snapper! Chelsea was in 20m of water with her Dad out from Carrum when her rod loaded up and she did it all herself!

Jayson Turner from Pro Red Fishing Charters fished the Seaford/Frankston area for the majority of the past week with some good success. Jayson reports that he has had some good bags of fish to 6kg and a couple of whopping flatties to 53cm! All baits have been working as well as each other with the fish not being too fussy. Instinct Lumo Snapper Rigs have been a favourite aboard Pro Red lately.

Gary Bitton, otherwise known as, “Uncle Fester” got amongst the calamari out from St Leonards this week. Gary managed a good bag with hood sizes averaging around 30cm. Clicks Pro Spec Squid jigs have been dominating the scene lately.

Sam Mhlanga fished with Trevor Holmes from Victorian Inland Fishing Charters who put him onto his very first trout in Australian waters and it was this beautiful brown of 57cm taken on a bent minnow. Then his second fish, a 64cm brown made his day. They don’t come much bigger than that!

Noah and his father Matt landed this beautiful Murray cod while trolling out of their kayak over the weekend. The pair were fishing near Echuca when they landed this quality 70cm specimen.

10 year old, Cowan Fuge landed this stunning 42cm trout cod while fishing in the Murray over the weekend. It is always a great sight to see these pretty fish! Well done Cowan.

Well done to part time staff member, Paul Delisle and his son, Rex who headed up to Eildon in search of some Murray cod action. Rex was over the moon with his PB cod he caught whilst trolling a purple stump jumper hard up against the timber. Love ya work boys!

Kate Hill trolled up this cracking 60cm yellow belly from Eildon over the weekend, Stump Jumper lures got the job done for Kate.

Jessica Gawel got amongst the red fin action over the weekend while at Bonnie Doon and brought home these beauties measuring 46, 48 and 49cm respectively. Love ya work Jessica.

YARRA RIVER, TEMPLESTOWE

The start of this year’s cod season has been much of a success, and there are some great catches coming from close to home! Matt Leavesly landed his very first cod and it was a stunner measuring 71cm! Matt was fishing in the Yarra River near Templestowe when this beauty took a liking to a bit of cheese. Matt’s friend, Bill Adriatico also landed a very similar sized fish on shrimp in the same area. Exciting to see how well this fishery is going!
BARWON RIVER

There has been a good run of salmon pushing into the Barwon River over the past few weeks. Mike Appleton landed this chunky model on pipi, other anglers have been getting stuck into them using Arma Metal Lures.

Jake McLeod had a battle on his hands when he hooked into this massive bronze whaler shark while fishing land based on the Yorke Peninsula. After a prolonged fight on light gear, Jake pulled up this beautiful shark for a few happy snaps. Well done mate!

Robert Gill got down to basics and nailed some lovely flathead using pilchard for bait on an old school hand line! Robert has been fishing Lake Macquarie in NSW for many years and reports this is the time of the year to find the big ones!
