img

img
A massive thank you to everyone who voted for us – At Mondays AFTA Awards night, Tackle World Cranbourne was crowned Australia’s Best Bait & Tackle Store for the second year running. We are very proud of our achievement, but it wouldn’t mean anything if it wasn’t for you, our loyal customers who we really exist for. Thank you for your support – we appreciate it!
STAFF PROFILE – NEIL DRUMMOND (DRUMMO)
img

Neil Drummond, or Drummo as we call him, is our longest serving full time team member here at Tackle World Cranbourne, but to everyone’s surprise, he is not the oldest! Drummo started with us back in 2006, although many would argue it feels like 1966 and he has been the friendly character and face of Cranbourne ever since.

Drummo has had plenty of fishing experience in his time, with some of his favorite destinations being down in Gippsland. In his prime, Drummo was a fairly good bream fishermen but he especially loved to feel the sand between his toes on the surf beaches chasing salmon. In recent times, Drummo has organized countless charters with Paul Worsteling’s father in-law, Greg Duncan and loves taking fresh whiting home to his dear wife.

Drummo is an extremely knowledgeable staff member here at Cranbourne and he is praised for his excellent customer service. Neil is one of the reasons we were crowned Best Bait & Tackle store for the second year running. His service is second to none!

So next time you drop into Cranbourne, stop and say G’day to Drummo. If he’s not at work , you can always find him at the Cranbourne RSL!

WESTERN PORT
LANG LANG
img
There’s been some great numbers of gummies been taken land based in the top end over the week. Lang Lang was a stand out on high tide with the best bait being big banana prawns! Big prawns are a very underrated bait in the top end of the Port.
TYABB BANK
img

Pat Ellaby got amongst the calamari last week in some good conditions, however the squid were tough going. Pat reports that he only managed three squid and they were all taken in the space of three minutes without any signs of another! Nevertheless this lovely model was taken with a 43cm hood. Great work Pat.

COWES
img
James caught this ripper snapper out from Cowes last Thursday. James fished the run out tide in perfect conditions when this 6.9kg specimen picked up his fresh salmon fillet and took off like a steam train! Awesome fish James!

PORT PHILLIP BAY
BLACK ROCK
img
Good customers, Daniel and Nathan had a cracker session on the water last Thursday afternoon. The pair set out to slay some small pinkies but they ended up nailing a couple of cracker fish! Squidgy flick baits and whip baits did the damage on the bulk of the fish.
FRANKSTON
img

Plenty of anglers are getting stuck into the garfish this week with Frankston and Seaford being hotspots. It has been tough with the winds but enough burley will get the gars firing up! Frankston pier has also seen some good schools of salmon kicking around off the end of the jetty.

BALCOMBE CREEK
img

Young Tackle World Mornington staff member, Harry Bould had a ripper session down at Balcombe Creek last week whilst fishing with fellow team member Gerry. Harry managed to land 4 ripper bream to about 34cm while his camera man, Gerry took some happy snaps. All fish were taken on scrub worms. Great work fellas!

SORRENTO
img

Young Cosi sent through this photo of himself with a lovely calamari caught from Sorrento while fishing with his dad. Sorrento and the surrounding areas of Southern Port Phillip have been red hot on the calamari with many boats reaching their bag.

SOUTHERN PORT PHILLIP
img

Shaun Furtiere from Think Big Fishing Charters stumbled across some big squid again this week in the southern end of Port Phillip. Shaun has been dominating the squid scene the last few weeks and is having no troubles finding good numbers of tasty calamari. Natural coloured jigs have been the weapon of choice.

AROUND THE STATE
TOOLONDO
img

Head of Fisheries Victoria, Travis Dowling has shown that persistence pays off. On Trav’s fourth trip down to Toolondo, he landed this fantastic brown trout after losing an absolute monster on a mudeye earlier in the day. Great work Trav.

img
Taylor Hunt from fisheries jumped aboard with Trevor Holmes from Victorian Inland Fishing Charters and landed this ripper buck brown casting a pink tassie devil on dark. Awesome work fellas, cracker fish!

img
Trevor Holmes from Victorian Inland Fishing Charters is definitely filling our report this week and that is because Toolondo is on fire! Tracey Trenorden jumped aboard on Monday and Dean Doherty got amongst the action on Saturday. A couple of very happy clients! Awesome work guys.

img
Geoff Stock headed out onto the lake in perfect conditions this week and was rewarded with another lovely brown! This fish was taken just after sunrise on Wednesday morning. Great work Geoff.

WURDIBULOC RESERVE
img
Michael Evans found some good patches of chunky redfin while fishing the rock wall at Wurdibuloc Reserve. Michael landed this cracker 44cm model which fell victim to a Daiwa Spike lure. Love your work Michael!
EILDON
img

img
Staff Members Gerry Morsman and Garry Norton headed up to Eildon on Tuesday in search of the iconic Murray cod. The boys started their day chasing trout where they were unsuccessful, so they put on their stump jumpers and headed into the thick timber where the cod were waiting! It didn’t take the boys long and they were into their first cod which measured 66cm! Another fish of about 60cm came not long after. Gaz and Gerry switched back to the trout scene where Garry hooked but unfortunately dropped a rainbow. For the day the boys also managed what we all originally thought was a salmon, but after much debate and having had consulted Dr Paul Hardy-Smith the outcome was that it was a lightly coloured brown trout. Awesome days fishing boys, well done!

KILCUNDA
Really good numbers of salmon coming from Kilcunda over the last week, however conditions have been tough with the big swell. Casting metal lures have proven most effective in the conditions because it has been hard to keep a bait in the area without the swell taking it down the beach. Fish are being taken to 1.5kg.
AROUND THE COUNTRY
BERMAGUI
img
The East Coast bluefin were quiet over the last week with the sea surface temperature falling apart. There will continue to be good bluefin spread across the coast but the schools will most likely be scattered.

img

The boys from Fish Bermi Charter Services got amongst some great numbers of snapper on Wednesday while jigging and bottom bashing the offshore reefs. Customers had a fantastic trip with a staggering amount of fish, 37 snapper, plenty of moorwong and a good feed of flathead.
