Are You Tempted by Sugar?
Ditching meat, fish, chicken, eggs, cheese and other dairy was a lot easier than I thought. After five years of plant-based eating, I truly don't miss any of those foods!
But sugar? That's an entirely different matter! Many of us have a wicked sweet tooth and minimizing the sugar in our diet can be a real struggle, even though we know it's not good for us.
Make no mistake, in the foods shown above, fat is as much a problem as sugar! But let's concentrate on sugar for the moment...
As we approach Halloween and the holiday season, it is worth reading this piece by Dr. Michael Klaper. He explains just how sugar affects our bodies and gives some great suggestions to help us avoid temptation.
Lucky for us, the sugar in whole fruit (as opposed to fruit juice and other processed forms of fruit) does not affect us the same way that sugar in cookies and chocolate does. We don't need to worry about the sugar in fruit, because it is tied to fiber. Eat fruit to your heart's content! However, when you juice fruit, you are discarding this valuable fiber.
