MEDIA ALERT: April 6, 2017
182 VENUES SEEK TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WORLD'S
MOST ATTENDED ANNUAL PUBLIC ART EVENT

Venue registration closed today for the ninth annual ArtPrize competition, slated to take place in Grand Rapids, Michigan from September 20-October 8, 2017. 182 registered venues, including 41 new spaces, seek to join the city-wide collaboration that showcases artists from all over the world, in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. See a full list of registered venues here.

Please note that this does not reflect the final number of Venues to participate in ArtPrize Nine. Each ArtPrize venue is independently organized and must connect with at least one artist during the Connections period to participate in the event this fall. The final number of 2017 venues will be announced on June 26, following the close of Connections.

All venues fall within the three-square mile ArtPrize district, save for three -- Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Gerald R. Ford International Airport, and Rumsey Street. Neighborhood residents, former members of the St. Joseph the Worker congregation, and local artists will take on the Rumsey Street venue in 2017, following a two-year residency by SiTE:LAB in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity of Kent County.

Today, SiTE:LAB announced plans for a major ArtPrize exhibition in 2018. The 100,000 square foot space at 415 Franklin -- a former high school slated to become the permanent home of Madison Square Church and a resource for the Madison / Franklin community -- will be used for major installations, exhibitions and events during ArtPrize Ten. This year for ArtPrize Nine, the SiTE:LAB team will host smaller-scale exhibitions and events, as well as community engagement and fundraising activities at this space as they ramp up to their ambitious exhibition in 2018.

Artist registration for ArtPrize Nine will take place from April 17-June 8, and artists and venues will connect online at artprize.org from April 24-June 22.
