UAC Welcomes New Board Members
Jannet Walker Ford, Mary Strasser and Folasade "Sade" Olanipekun-Lewis
Jannet Walker Ford is the Vice President for Parsons Corporation. She is an experienced transportation executive with expertise in management consulting and information technology. She previously served as the Deputy Program Director for the Philadelphia International Airport's Capacity Enhancement Program (CEP) and as the Deputy CEO/Deputy General Manager and the Chief Information Officer for the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA).
Mary Strasser is a professional consultant for universities and nonprofits, helping them to increase their capacity and impact through strategic planning and organizational development. She previously served as Director of AmeriCorps VISTA and as State Program Director for Pennsylvania. She also served as Vice President of Community Impact for the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. 
Folasade "Sade" Olanipekun-Lewis is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Philadelphia International Airport and is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania's Fels Institute of Government. She previously served as Chief Financial Officer for Philadelphia's City Council President, Darrell L. Clarke, and Deputy Commerce Director for Finance and Administration for the City of Philadelphia. 
Free Tax Sites Open in Philadelphia, Montgomery and Delaware Counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey
Campaign for Working Families Saving Families Millions in Tax Preparation & Check Cashing Fees
 
UAC Program Partner Campaign for Working Families (CWF), operates community-based free tax sites. Services offered include e-filing, direct deposit, savings bonds and public benefit screenings. Additionally, CWF refers clients to partner organizations that offer banking, credit counseling, debt reduction and Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) assistance. CWF services are available to families and individuals that fall within the IRS guidelines. Tax sites in PA are now open and will remain open through mid-April; select sites offer hours extended past the April 15 filing deadline. Campaign for Working Families celebrated their EITC Day of Action and Impact at the Free Library of Philadelphia on Saturday, January 30, 2016 with United Way of Greater Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey .

CWF joined the UAC Family in July 2003, receiving fiscal sponsorship services that support their growth. In 2015, CWF expanded its services beyond Philadelphia to New Jersey and Montgomery and Delaware Counties in PA. Over the last 13 years, CWF filed over 171,610 returns, saving clients $30.8M in tax preparation fees and check cashing charges and returned $271M in tax refunds to its clients!

On Thursday, January 28, City Councilman At-Large Alan Domb presented a resolution encouraging Philadelphians to file for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). UAC President Sharmain Matlock-Turner, pictured right, gave remarks to City Council on the importance of EITC.

Registration Now Open for the 37th Annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run 
Did you know the Broad Street Run is a UAC Program Partner?
Registration for the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation’s 37th Annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run 10 miler is NOW OPEN! Registration will continue until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, February 12.

The Blue Cross Broad Street Run has been a Program Partner at the Urban Affairs Coalition for more than 20 years and for the 20th consecutive year, Independence Blue Cross has been the title sponsor of the run, which is the nation’s sixth la
rgest road race. As its fiscal sponsor, UAC provides on-demand, scalable financial services based on their seasonal mission and needs. If you have an annual event that does not require year-round operations and fiscal management, fiscal sponsorship with UAC is an excellent alternative to having your own 501c3
 
This year the Blue Cross Broad Street Run will be held on Sunday, May 1st and the Department of Parks and Recreation anticipates another sellout of 40,000 registered runners from across the country this year. Runners register through a lottery to accommodate the large number of registrants, and winners will be posted on BroadStreetRun.com on Tuesday, February 16th. Visit www.broadstreetrun.com to register.

CED Hosts Training for PNC Branch Managers 

On Wednesday, January 27, UAC's Community and Economic Development (CED) Committee, hosted a training on its PHILplus and miniPHIL loan programs for one of their program bank partner's, PNC Bank. CED's APL Program Administrator, Felicia Carter (pictured left), facilitated the training and was accompanied by PNC Underwriter, Jill Fusaro, and PNC's Vice President and Community Consultant, Nelson Acevedo (pictured right).
