Season's Greetings from the Urban Affairs Coalition
A Message from UAC President Sharmain Matlock-Turner

On behalf of the Urban Affairs Coalition and our Board of Directors, we wish you a happy holiday season and a prosperous New Year!

This year, the Urban Affairs Coalition celebrated its 46th year of working to unite government, business, community and individual initiatives. Our theme this year, “
Breaking Barriers, Building Coalitions,” challenged us to continue to improve the conditions in our community and make a difference in the neighborhoods with the greatest needs.

Your support helps us drive change from the ground up through our 60+ programs and 15 projects, serving more than 150,000 people in our region annually. As we look forward to 2016, we pledge to continue to make Philadelphia a better place to live, work and play. We ask you to pledge your continued support of our work.

We look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Have a Happy Holiday,
Sharmain Matlock-Turner
President & CEO

Sharp Insight Project is Calling All Barbers and Barbershops

This past summer, UAC Program Partner, Youth Outreach Adolescent Community Awareness Program (YOACAP), was named a winner of the 2015 Knight News Challenge on Elections for its Sharp Insight project. Sharp Insight was the only winner from the Philadelphia area, selected from a pool of 1,000+ applicants. Sharp Insight is partnering with barbers and barbershops throughout Philadelphia to train barbers on how to provide non-partisan information to their customers about the importance of voting and volunteering in their communities. Barbers and barbershops who participate receive many benefits, such as free promotional items, free promos for their barbershop and small stipends for the barbers themselves. More importantly, barbers receive vital information to share with their customers to help with other issues. To find out about the first barber orientation or to ask a question about SHARP INSIGHT, please call 215-851-1968.
