Four new animations launched on the CLOSER Learning Hub
CLOSER has released a new series of animations introducing users to different statistical methods and methodological approaches for analysing data from longitudinal studies. The videos provide simple explanations of complex analysis techniques - regression analysis, multi-level and growth curve modelling, and survival analysis - supporting content in the Analysing longitudinal data module on the CLOSER Learning Hub.

10% of teenagers have tried hard drugs by age 17
New research from UCL Centre for Longitudinal Studies (CLS) has used Millennium Cohort Study data to find that almost a third of 17-year-olds have tried cannabis and one in 10 have tried harder drugs, such as cocaine, with similar rates of experimentation regardless of parents’ education level.

Consuming omega-3 fatty acids could help prevent asthma
New research using data from the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) suggests a higher dietary intake of long chain omega-3 fatty acids in childhood may reduce the risk of developing subsequent asthma, but only in children carrying a common gene variant.

Understanding Society has published its tenth Insights report celebrating 10 waves of data. The report covers six main topics including civic engagement, education and training, and health and health behaviours.

Generation Scotland publish new CovidLife findings
Generation Scotland have published findings from two of their CovidLife sub-studies - TeenCovidLife and RuralCovidLife. Two reports from the second TeenCovidLife survey focus on young people's health and wellbeing, and school qualifications. The RuralCovidLife report explores the health and wellbeing of rural communities in Scotland during the pandemic.
