The latest in COVID-19 longitudinal news, research, data and resources

New COVID-19 data and findings from the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing

Data from the first wave of the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing COVID-19 survey is now available to download from the UK Data Service.

To coincide with the data release, ELSA has produced a number of reports summarising initial findings from the data. The reports focus on:
  • the financial consequences of the pandemic on older people
  • the experience of older people instructed to shield or self-isolate
  • the experience of older people with multimorbidity, and
  • changes in older people's experiences of providing care and of volunteering during the pandemic.

Latest developments

New events section added to the COVID-19 Hub

CLOSER's COVID-19 Longitudinal Research Hub now includes a new section listing upcoming and past events (including workshops, webinars, panel sessions) relating to the pandemic, and of relevance to the longitudinal research community. Read more

COVID-19 Areas of Research Interest

The Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology (POST) has published 20 COVID-19 Areas of Research Interest for the UK Parliament. The ARIs focus on the impacts of the global pandemic and range from economic recovery and growth, to surveillance and data collection, long-term mental health effects, education, vaccine development, and the NHS. Each ARI comes with a series of questions aiming to further break down each broad area. Read more

Latest COVID-19 survey data now available



Data from the second Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children (ALSPAC) COVID-19 survey is now available for researchers to access. Over 6,400 people completed the second survey, which ran from May to July 2020. Read more


Data is available from the second round of the TwinsUK COVID-19 Personal Experience (COPE) questionnaire for researchers to access. This questionnaire was administered in late July/early August 2020 and 5,308 participants responded.
