CSIP AND ALLIANCE FOR SAFE ONLINE PHARMACIES COLLABORATE ON TIMES SQUARE AD

In October, the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies (CSIP), in partnership with the Alliance for Safe Online Pharmacies (ASOP), released a public service announcement that ran in New York City’s Times Square through January. The 520 square foot advertisement, visible to over 950,000 pedestrians and travelers daily, warned consumers  to be cautious when purchasing prescription drugs online because it could be “gambling with your life”.

CSIP PARTNERS WITH GLOBAL CAMPAIGN IN FIGHT AGAINST FAKE MEDICINES

Last summer, the Center for Safe Internet Pharmacies joined forces with Fight the Fakes, a coordinated global campaign against fake medicines, consisting of partners representing wholesalers, pharmacists, mobile app services, coalitions for consumer protection, research-institutes, non-profits, private sector entities, and more. We encourage others to visit Fight the Fakes on the web and on Twitter (@FightTheFakes) to learn more and to lend your voice to this growing global movement!

CSIP PARTICIPATES IN GLOBAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATION TARGETING FAKE MEDICINES

Last May, CSIP, and private sector companies including G2 Web Services, LegitScript, MasterCard, Microsoft, PayPal and Visa, joined nearly 200 enforcement agencies across 111 countries to take part in Operation Pangea VII. The operation targeted criminal networks behind the sale of fake medicines, led to thousands of arrests and to the shutdown of many illicit pharmacy websites.

Visa logo with prescription pill bottlesVisa, with input from our ex-officio member, LegitScript, developed the “Online Pharmacy Guide for Acquirers,” which provides information to help distinguish between legitimate and rogue online merchants by outlining key illicit behaviors of fake online pharmacies, and summarizes international laws, verification and licensure procedures.

FDA Begins Implementation of Drug Quality and Security Act (DQSA)
The DQSA requires that the FDA and groups throughout the supply chain set up systems to verify a product identifier for every package that comes through, and to provide information about who handles drug packages. Learn more about how the FDA is implementing this important legislation.
