EM/2022/22

Further clarification: Modalities of the ninth session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (#IPBES9)

Dear IPBES Members, Observers and participants who have registered for IPBES9,

I am writing in follow-up to notification EM/2022/20 of 1 June 2022, on modalities of the ninth session of the Plenary of IPBES, scheduled to be held from 3 to 9 July 2022 in Bonn, Germany.

In that notification we informed that, while it had been announced previously that online participation would be restricted to “viewer mode” and not allow active participation in the meeting, provision is now being made for duly registered members of delegations to actively participate online in the plenary meetings and meetings of the two working groups, which are expected to be established.

These provisions have been made to respond to the multiple requests received from Governments and to support a balanced participation in light of the still ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

As already announced during the informal preparatory meetings for Governments, and communicated in the information note for participants (https://ipbes.net/ipbes9info), please note that any interventions made online can only be delivered in English, and will not be interpreted into the other 5 official UN languages.

Please be reminded that delegates who would like to participate online need to complete the same registration procedure as delegates participating in-person, and be included in the credentials for the delegation. Connection details to the online meeting platform will be shared with duly registered participants closer to the event.

I take this opportunity to request delegates who have not yet uploaded nomination letters or credentials to do so on https://ipbes.net/user/login?destination=ipbes-9/nomination-letters-and-credentials.

I thank you again for your continued support of IPBES.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Anne Larigauderie | Executive Secretary
