12 May 2021
Dear IPBES Members, observers and stakeholders,
With reference to notification EM/2021/07 I would like to remind you that registration to participate in the eighth session of the Plenary of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), to be held online from 14 to 24 June 2021, will close on 17 May 2021.
The provisional agenda and working documents for the eighth session of the Plenary are available on the IPBES website (https://www.ipbes.net/event/ipbes-8-plenary). Information documents and introductory video presentations for each item are being made available, and an information note concerning all the necessary arrangements will be made available shortly.
For the purpose of making preparatory arrangements for the session, online registration should be completed by each delegate at https://ipbes.net/user/login?destination=ipbes-8/registration as soon as possible, and no later than 17 May 2021. Only registered participants who have been duly nominated by IPBES members or observers in a formal nomination letter will have access to the session.
Please note that registration for Stakeholder Days is separate. To register to join the Stakeholder Days please use this dedicated form: https://ipbes.net/ipbes-8/stakeholderdays/registration. Registration for Stakeholder Days does not grant access to the eighth session of the IPBES Plenary.
A scanned copy of the credentials should be submitted by one member of the delegation, if possible, due to the online nature of the meeting, ahead 9 June 2021, through the online platform https://ipbes.net/ipbes-8/nomination-letters-and-credentials. As the eighth session of the Plenary is being held online, the IPBES secretariat is unable to receive the original hard copies of credentials until further notice.
If a member is unable to submit credentials ahead of the session, please ensure that all members of the delegation have completed online registration and an official communication setting out the members of delegation to the eighth session of IPBES (such as letters and notes verbales) has been submitted.
Participation by observers (any body, organization or agency, whether national or international, governmental, intergovernmental or non-governmental, including organizations of and representatives of indigenous peoples and local communities, which is qualified in matters covered by the Platform) in the session of the Plenary requires their admission by the Plenary. Observers admitted to a previous session of the Plenary (https://ipbes.net/accredited-organisations) will be admitted to the eighth session of the Plenary. The Plenary will decide on the admission of new observers in accordance with the interim procedure described in paragraph 22 of the report of the first session of the Plenary (IPBES/1/12). Nominated participants of organizations seeking accreditation and recommended to the Plenary for admission will get access to the session. The list of recommended organizations can be found in document IPBES/8/INF/1 on the IPBES website.
I would also like to repeat the invitation to any Government in a position to do so, to consider hosting the ninth session of the Plenary, suggested to take place in March or April 2022. Governments interested in hosting the ninth session of the Plenary, are invited to send an email to: email@example.com as soon as possible.
Let me also take this opportunity to remind all members that have not done so to designate a national focal point responsible for liaising with the IPBES secretariat on all matters related to IPBES, by submitting a nomination letter accompanied by the completed designation form available at https://ipbes.net/sites/default/files/2020-02/IPBES_NFP_designation_form.pdf to the IPBES secretariat (firstname.lastname@example.org). The list of national focal points is available at https://ipbes.net/national-focal-points.
I thank you again for your continued support of IPBES.
Dr Anne Larigauderie | Executive Secretary
Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES)
