 Mid-December Newsletter

Educate   ~   Empower   ~   Engage

Seasons Greetings!  May December be full of much joy and success for you and yours.  For our GPSEN family, we are happy to share two big news items.

First, we have received many quality proposals to participate in our "Building Bridges to Sustainability" GPSEN Sustainability Symposium, but we still have a few spots available for speakers, workshops, posters, and art exhibits.  So, we have extended the Call for Proposals until Sunday, January 6.  With a focus on collaboration, diversity, innovative problem-solving, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we want to highlight the great work happening in our community.  If you have or know of cutting-edge sustainability projects or research that you think would benefit the greater Portland region, be sure to get a proposal in soon and help spread the word.  Plus, don't miss out on a chance to be a Sponsor for the Symposium as well.  Details are now available on our website.

Second, three of our GPSEN leaders returned last week from the Global RCE Conference in Cebu, Philippines, with not only increased understanding and appreciation of sustainability education efforts occuring around the world, but also three global RCE Recognition Awards. Serena Dressel received an Acknowledged Flagship Project for PSU's Intensive English Language Program and their efforts to increase awareness of the SDGs.  Joe Calhune won an Acknowledged Flagship Project for his PCC Sustain Me! podcast.  And, Kim Smith accepted an Honorable Mention Project for our GPSEN Fellows Program.  Receiving three of twenty awards given, we are really proud of our team!

Let's see what we can accomplish in 2019!

Looking forward,
Your GPSEN Team
