Earlier this week, I shared a Wonky Star Block tutorial. The example was used in a set of throw pillows I gifted, but this block also serves as the center of my Starshine Baby Quilt. (I've included a link for the free pattern further on in the newsletter - a gift to you for subscribing!) If you're new to wonky stars, visit the blog to learn how to make them. They're perfect as pillows, side panels on a tote bag, or in my new quilt pattern.

Quilt crush! Kona's 2017 Color of the Year is Pink Flamingo, and Robert Kaufman is releasing a series of free patterns featuring the flamboyant color, including this one by Heather Jones. I love her clean, modern aesthetic, and she really delivers in this design! (If you're more of a Pantone fan, their color this year is Greenery... these two shades paired would make a very Lily Pulizter-esque quilt, don't you think?)

Craving an infusion of color to remind you spring will come? One of the lucky ones reveling in summer's beauty instead of staring at snow out your window? Either way, I think you'll enjoy these vibrant feeds -
food, paint and flowers to inspire color palettes and projects!

The great embroidery & hand stitching craze... This fall I tried my hand at a Penguin & Fish hedgehog and loved it, and then I started in with the visible mending. Ever since I've been hunting down others who are creating beautiful stitches. Check out Joyce's colorful pillow, Michelle's tapestry of color, Kelly's alphabet, and Kitty's gorgeous Alison Glass hoop.
This month's "Tuesday Treats" prize is a signed copy of Boho Embroidery: Modern Projects from Traditional Stitches by Nicole Vogelsinger. The giveaway runs through Saturday night on Instagram, so you still have time to pop over and enter!

Behind the Scenes at BBD

~ My charm squares of Moda's new Mixed Bag 2017 have been calling to me, and I think I've finalized my design sketch. Time to get stitching!

Sewing School 2 has taken over my kids' creative focus - if you've hesitated in choosing a how to book for the young sewist in your life, I highly recommend this machine piecing intro, as well as the hand sewing focused Sewing School.

~ My word of the year is
"action," which I wrote about here. (If you're new to choosing a focus word, here's a great post & template for getting started.)

~ How do you maximize your maker time? One of my tricks is preparing dinner early in the day so I can eke out a few extra minutes of sewing later when I'm in my workflow. This Kale, Chickpea & Chicken Soup is even more delicious with the "optional" Andouille sausage; cook it ahead so you can create right up until the dinner bell rings ; )
Ok, so what do you think?
This is my very first newsletter, and I hope you enjoyed it! I'm aiming to give you a nice balance of BBD happenings paired with new ideas & places from around our creative community, and I'd love to know if I delivered. Please hit reply if you'd like to talk more - I'd love to hear from you!

In the meantime, happy sewing & creating!

P.S. Thanks again for subscribing! As a token of appreciation, I'm sharing my free Starshine Baby Quilt pattern with you. Download it today!
