June saw me less in the studio sewing and more logging hours at my laptop. I didn't have a big quilt finish, but I did blog about all the ways my baby steps and behind-the-scenes work is starting to pay off for my business!
Summer sewing is in full swing here in the northern hemisphere, and there are some fun QALs underway: ~ New to quilting or need something simple with your schedule? Try Stitched in Color's Rainbow Picnic SAL. ~ Love a more complex project? Bryan House Quilts Modern Triangle Medallion kicks off this week. Becca's design is stunning! ~ My Tea & Brie's Summer Trip Around the World has also just begun. In Meg's own words, "This project EATS SCRAPS FOR BREAKFAST" so it's the perfect summer scrapbuster! ~ A great traditional sampler, Piecing the Past Quilts Summer Picnic, got underway for the solstice.
That said, fall (or spring, hello, down under!) will be here soon. Have an upcoming QAL or SAL planned? Send me a link & I'll share it in the next newsletter!
This month's "go green" highlights an awesome new architectural feat - the world's first "forest city." The concept is laudable but I also think the images of terraced apartments and structured outdoor spaces are full of quilty design ideas!
Fabric crushes: Have I mentioned how much I *love* crosshatch prints as go-to basics? They're the perfect "solid" for print fanatics! So I'm excited about the new Linea from Makower UK. I'm also planning to scoop up some Echinacea & Raindrops Poppies from the AMH's Floral Retrospective. (Psst... if you liked the fabric I used in the Blue Owls quilt or are crushing on other custom prints from Spoonflower, they're having their annual BOGO FQ Sale through this weekend!)
What new fabrics & quilts are you loving right now? I'm always looking for new crush contenders!
I sometimes agonize over cutting into stashed fabric or sharing treasured tools with my kids (who think an entire roll of washi tape is to be used in one sitting). And while it's true supplies need restocking, creativity is infinite. Download a high res copy for desktop wallpaper or your studio wall to cheer on your creative experimentation!
I was both humbled & grateful for the enthusiastic response to my call for pattern testers last month, and I'm excited to say that the first design to be vetted by the BBD Pattern Testing Team is in their capable hands right this very moment. Be on the lookout for my next pattern release in August!
The Kids Quilt Round Robin is humming along. My girls added flying geese to their friend Norah's quilt, Z added the perfect feature print to her block for R, and G nailed his vision of Hannah's rainbow & brown block request. You can find all the kids' current work on IG using #kidsquiltroundrobin!
Earlier this week I had some fun creating the virtual fabric bundles shown above for Stash Fabrics' Design Star 2017 contest. If you haven't used their website's design wall (I hadn't - completely overlooked last year's competition), you should try it next time you fabric shop online. Hands down the easiest, most flexible tool I've used like that - reposition, resize and add dozens & dozens of swatches! For more colorful eye candy, check out #stashfabricsdesignstar on IG.
Win a $20 gift certificate to BackSide Fabrics, plus this festive set of fat quarters!
Do you enjoy my monthly giveaways? Have a quilty product you'd like to see featured? I'm always looking for new treats to share from notions to patterns to fabric to book titles. I'm currently planning ideas for #BBDTuesdayTreats though the end of the year. Send me your suggestion and I'll check it out!
If you'd like to weigh in on anything else I've shared, please do. It's as easy as hitting "reply" to this email, and I'd love to hear from you.
