Here's a little flashback to the heart mini I created two years ago inspired by a Pink Door Fabric post. It's a quick project and uses one mini charm pack. (I never know what to make with those teeny squares, but this fit the bill!) Here's their free pattern if you want to create one, too!
Have you heard about The Honey Pot Bee hosted by Molli Sparkles? It's a fun, drop-in-when-you-can event to make blocks just for you! Teje's beautiful sampler includes all the bee blocks released so far, and I love this version of Adrienne's #quilterspantryblock - but I'm on a bit of a Heather Ross kick ; )

If you're a new quilt blogger or want to discover some fresh blogs to follow, don't miss this year's New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop (registration is open through 2/28). It's a great way to meet other quilters and find fresh voices. I participated back in 2014 and it was an awesome experience!

Noticed how many quilters have backgrounds related to mathematics? (Full discloser: I used to be a math teacher ; ) This NSF grant-funded study seeks to explore how craft & math coincide - click to participate

Craftivism is getting lots of media attention lately. Here are some recent highlights from the quilting world....
~ This new profile of Chawne Kimber gives an overview of her prolific work, including images of recent statement quilts and cross-stitch.
~ Angela Bowman designed this self-portrait stressing the call for kindness & understanding online
~ And don't miss these quilts made by Jessica SkultetyDarci Read & Jessica Levitt for the Women's March last month.
~ Back in November, many people created Kitty's safety pin pattern. I even quilted two small statement pieces myself.
~ If you're feeling fired up, check out this call for submissions from Threads of Resistance.
~ And if you're feeling called to outreach, this is a wonderful opportunity to support the Muslim community by quilting prayer rugs.

Here's a quick history lesson on the good luck behind tomato pin cushions. And the future biologist who lives at my house was enthralled by these unique embroideries, as well as these stunning recreations of coral made entirely of thread!

Stitching up a last minute Valentine's Day gift? Here's a quick cozy with free "Thanks a Latte" printable perfect for teachers & coworkers. Perhaps you have a bestie like mine who'd love this little heart mini? A little one who's room would be brightened by this adorable felt heart mobile? Happy <3 Day!

Speaking of love... my current quilt crush is on this new pattern from Carrie Merrell (and my adorable studio decor crush is on just about everything from Just Add Sunshine - wouldn't one of these little signs brighten up your sewing space?)!

Giveaway runs through Saturday night on Instagram ~ You could win a set of notions I love PLUS a scrap bundle of my most recent fabric crush, Sleeping Porch by Heather Ross.
I won a set of Alice in Wonderland inspired fabric, and haven't decided what to make with it. (I'm open to suggestions!) The new Layer Cake Pop free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop looks like a good possibility. I love Yvonne's version (and her snow!) though this one by Erica has me dreaming of spring!

I did it. I #cutthekona. Mix & matching colors is a lot easier with my card in a few hundred pieces. Needing a good swatch storage solution, I ordered the nifty box pictured below and it's working great. If you're thinking of chopping yours up, here are a few other storage ideas you might like: book rings, a magnet board, or a velcro board tutorial. (And then there's the super handy Match Maker Set if you're a Bella Solids fan... no cutting required! ; )

Valentine's Day holds a special place in my heart because it's not just a great day to celebrate the ones we love, but also the annual Berry Barn Designs blogoversary! 2017 marks 5 years of blogging for me. When I started documenting creative projects from my tiny little corner of the web, I had no idea that five years later I'd be part of such a fun & supportive quilting community, sharing on multiple platforms, like Instagram, Facebook, and now this newsletter where I get to connect with you each month & showcase what creative work I think you'll love outside of BBD. Thank you so much for following along!
Can you believe we're almost halfway through February?! I'm simultaneously wishing for one last snowstorm (I miss New England... we don't get very much snow here in Kansas, just cold!) but joyously anticipating spring. I need to finish up a few more quilt tops this winter so I can sit & stitch bindings in the sunshine once my toddler's primarily playing outside again. What's left on your quilt checklist for the season?

And I'd be remiss not to mention QuiltCon, which is just around the corner. I won't be attending this year, but I'm excited to follow along on IG. Let me know if you're going & what you're most excited about! Have a featured quilt? Enrolled in the class of your dreams?
If you'd like to weigh in on anything I've shared, please hit reply! I'd love to hear from you. In the meantime, happy sewing & creating!

P.S. Abby Glassenberg's podcasts are a favorite soundtrack in my sewing studio. She interviews people from all over the craft world, but this recent episode with Thomas Knauer on the state of the quilting industry was especially fascinating. Have a listen!
