Quiltcon 2018 MQG Fabric Challenge
I'm excited that I've finished the projects I worked on all summer, so I've freed enough space on my design wall to start a new project! Next up is this MQG Fabric Challenge.
The Back to School Blog Hop 2017 kicks off on August 15th. Be sure to follow along for 32 days of awesome tips and tutorials! I'll be chatting "To Starch or Not to Starch" on September 8th.

Are you a planner? I am for sure and have loved having a quilt-friendly version by my side the past few years. The 2018 Quilters Planner is available for preorder now (and of course I'll be doing my annual giveaway if you don't have your own copy yet come November)!

This month's "go green" shout out is for Meg at My Tea and Brie (yep - she's also hosting the Summer Trip Around the World QAL that I mentioned last month) who's in the midst of a "butterfly whisperer" adventure saving monarch caterpillars one egg at a time.

Fabric crushes: Last month I mentioned my excitement about Linea becoming available stateside, and you guys, I got some - eep! The colors are so saturated and delicious. It's my new favorite stash basic. I'm also looking forward to Alison Glass' Diving Board (the Lilliput Sunrise print is so fun!), and the beautiful Modern Backgrounds Colorbox line by Zen Chic for Moda, which includes a variety of low volume prints, plus three neat geometric "cheater panels"... check out my crushes below!

(And if you're into novelty prints or sewing with kids, Fruity Friends looks whimsical and includes a cherry print that I'll have to add to my mom's cherry fabric stash!)

Quilt crushes: I'm loving some of the sneak peaks from the 2018 Quilters Planner, especially this one of Flock of Geese by Meadowmist Designs (although the setting of the photo - taken by the talented Kitty Wilkin - makes me a tad homesick for quilty photoshoots in Maine!)

What new fabrics & quilts are you loving right now? I'm always looking for new contenders!

Sew Cozy Quilt Retreat sewing day images
I recently had the opportunity to get away for a day of sewing by joining a great group of quilters at a local quilting retreat space, the Sew Cozy Quilt Lodge. Read more here about how much I enjoyed the opportunity, then hit reply and tell me...
Do you have a favorite sewing retreat?
Have you either been to a retreat event (i.e. Camp Stitchalot, Sewtopia) OR to a great space that your guild/group of friends rented and loved? Was it the teacher, the location or the fabulous amenities that made it so memorable? Send me a message because I'd love to include your recommendations in the next newsletter!

Where we live, school is starting next week, and this year the shift is bringing more transition than usual to our family. In addition to my girls heading back, I'm starting a new job, my youngest is starting daycare for the first time, and my husband is set to have another "extended vacation abroad" with the Army. This means two unavoidable things: first, the BBD blog may be mostly crickets at first as I adjust to full time outside work, solo parenting, and juggling a growing business all at once (but I'm going to do my best to keep up - wish me luck!), and second, I'm stressed!

In an effort to reduce my stress and anxiety, I've been implementing meditation into my daily routine and reading up on the topic of resiliency. Here are two great resources I found and wanted to share with you: Headspace is a neat guided meditation platform with tracks on a variety of topics like anxiety, work, athletic performance - they even have short tracks for kids that my children love, and this "How to Be Better at Stress" guide chock full of tips for building resiliency. Passing them along in the hope some of you might find them as helpful as I have!
If you'd like to weigh in on anything I've shared, please do. It's as easy as hitting "reply" to this email, and I'd love to hear from you.

In the meantime, happy sewing & creating!
P.S. Notice this month's newsletter is late? Yeah... see above stress/new job note above... but I'll be back on track in September, and I appreciate you following along despite the delay! Thanks, all : )

P.P.S. My daughter recently requested a pair of "rainbow unicorn clip on earrings" and I thought they'd be hard to find... now I'm considering these. Think they'll fit the bill?
