Five Fat Quarter Challenge entry
What do you do when you hear about a quilt challenge at the eleventh hour? You dive in!
See my entry!
~ Hurry! You still have till midnight tonight for this annual Spoonflower sale! (It's how I knock out all my holiday teacher/hostess gifts - a custom tea towel tied with ribbon around a loaf of homemade bread. *Poof* gift complete!)
~ You probably know I work in the library of our local elementary school, so you can appreciate how excited I was to see this new Cotton & Steel collaboration
~ Looking for Quilt Market recaps? Here's a smattering: Diary of a QuilterFabricwormIsland Batiks, ModaRiley Blake, and Timeless Treasures.
~ Emily Dennis offers up some excellent resources for creative bloggers & business owners in her latest post.
~ My dad's visiting for Thanksgiving and I'm going to ask him to help me with Quilting Jet Girl's quilt ladder tutorial. I'm going to use these extra wide ones from Coriander Quilts' as inspiration!
~ This month's "go green" link is to Suzy Quilts' interesting look at organic vs. non-organic fabric.
WELSUMMER by Kimberly Kight
Metallic LOTS OF SPOTS by Lucy Engels
FOUNDATION by Shayla Wolf
PAINT THE TOWN by Striped Pear Studios
Fabric crushes: [1] Have you seen Welsummer by Kimberly Kight? More importantly, have you seen this #brimfieldblock in Welsummer?? [2] All of Lucy Engels' handprinted dots, but especially these gorgeous copper metallics! [3] I can't wait to see what Shayla Wolf builds off of her new Foundation line. So many vibrant pink/berry/purples (and greens, and blues, and yellows, and...)! [4] And as "whimsy for kid sewing," Paint the Town by Striped Pear Studios.

Quilt crushes: Probably my fave quilt of all from Quilt Market: Atomic Starburst has "make me in pinks, teals & silver for Christmas!" written all over it. Tiffany Hayes' new pattern reminds me of my childhood Lite Bright - in a good way! Her use of ombre creates a neat back-lit effect. Now tell me if you also can see secondary circles in the new Tooth and Nail pattern from Victoria Findlay Wolfe. (Oh, and I can't forget this one - cute, quick and rainbow!)

What new fabrics & quilts are you loving right now? Drop me a line and I'll include your favorites in the next edition!

Last week we hosted the Kids Quilt Round Robin wrap up hop and it was fun to see how each child decided to piece their blocks.

I've procrastinated myself into a last minute finish for my Michael Miller Our Yard Fabric Challenge entry, but I'm excited to work on it over the long holiday weekend.

I also still have a few slow-going WIPs underway with holiday deadlines looming, but it may be time to admit that an IOU is likely in the cards for at least one recipient (hint: it's my mom, so she still has to love me even if her Christmas gift is a bag of half-finished quilt blocks and the promise to get them done later in the winter).

This month I'm celebrating a big milestone birthday, and naturally it has me stepping back and reassessing goals. I know I want to do more teaching next year, I'd definitely like to roll out more frequent patterns, and I think I'd like to tweak my newsletter a tad and write to you twice a month. I'll be able to share quilty news in a more timely manner, and to include you in a quilt along with block instructions delivered right to your inbox. (But first, excuse me a moment while I blow out a few dozen of these candles ; )

If you'd like to chat about anything I've shared, please do. It's as easy as hitting "reply" to this email, and I'd love to hear from you!

Happy quilting & sewing!
P.S. Spending Thanksgiving with any loyal, four-legged friends? My girls suggest this!
