Happy February & Imbolc!
Imbolc is also known as Brigid's Day and is a Gaelic tradition celebrating the mid-way point between the winter solstice and spring equinox. It falls on February 1-2.
It's a powerful time over the next few days to set prayers, intentions, or rituals as we all are emerging from the darkness of winter to more light of spring. We are bringing our lessons, how we've grown, and being open to the budding of new seeds planted within us. You may begin to notice that daylight is lasting a little longer, and the energy is shifting to more vibrance.
The theme of February aligns with the emergence of spring through PERSEVERANCE.
There is an energy to the month that may have you wanting to move fast, but something outside of you is holding you back. It's a very push pull energy to the month, so perseverance is needed to continue making forward movement where you feel called.
The situations and plans that previously would move quickly and effortlessly are now feeling sluggish and slow. When you begin to feel an ebb or sharp turn in your projects, you can persevere through going with the flow.
Forcing situations will most likely backfire in some way for you right now. It could be a challenging mental state, stronger emotions could emerge, or a physical challenge could ask you to slow down.
Patience and discernment are the keys to continue being persistent. A roadblock in your plans is not necessarily a sign that it's not the direction to be going in, but merely there may be a better path to get there than you could have previously seen, or the timing isn't quite right just yet. Step back, take a breather and reassess. You may have a better idea that emerges that then begins to flow for you.
An excellent visual to help you navigate this month is to imagine you are water in a stream. There is a natural flow and direction you are going in, and it's moving effortlessly. You start to slow down at specific points, though. There are rocks on one side, a pileup of leaves & sticks in that area; all water seems to squeeze together to go around these perceived blocks. Feel yourself as the water naturally adjusting. Maybe you are part of the water that flows smoothly in between everything, effortlessly finding the easiest path. Perhaps you find yourself bumping into a rock or nature's build-up and become forced to redirect. Either way, see yourself course-correcting to continue to flow.
Facing resistance is where discernment comes in. Is the block you encounter something that needs a simple adjustment, and you can quickly move around? Or is it a consistent block that you are familiar with that now it's time to gain additional support to help you move through?
When you take a birds-eye view of the stream, though, you might see something different. You may find beauty and calmness as you hear the water adjusting through and around the ebbs in the stream. The way water hits the rocks and course corrects to keep flowing may be calming to witness. Seeing the water with ease keep moving forward could instill hope and peace.
How you see yourself, and your situation is up to you. If your current viewpoint is bringing frustration and constant roadblocks, is there a new perspective or truth you need to adopt to get more flow into your life?
Let's begin to summarize this month's theme with some tips for you.
How to persevere when faced with resistance:
• Respect the challenge in front of you. It doesn't mean you have to like it. It means you understand that it has its own view of what it wants to do in your life. By respecting and acknowledging its presence, you free yourself up to respond in a way that feels empowering to you versus a stuck state of mind.
• Ask yourself, "What is flowing in my life?" Instead of staying focused on what isn't working, glance around at the other areas of your life or situations where you can continue making forward movement and then returning to the resistance with fresh eyes. You aren't giving up; you are taking space to gain new insights.
• Find the sense of humor (depending on the situation, this may or may not be appropriate). Finding humor can ease up the tension surrounding the stuck energy. If you can't find the humor on your own, talk to someone who can make you laugh, watch stand-up comedy, or whatever brings a smile to your face. Energy flows where attention goes. Sometimes there is an energy that needs releasing before the insight or breakthrough happens to make space for what wants to come next.
• Check-in with where your attitude is. Are you feeling hopeful? Are you feeling defeated? Are you all of it and more? Don't force an attitude change right now if it doesn't feel true for you. How to persevere is by being honest with what your current experience is and feeling it fully. From this point, be open to the attitude that wants to emerge to support you through the challenge/resistance.
