Dear JLI Member,
Last week I was delighted to participate in the First Assembly on Women, Faith and Diplomacy, organized by Religions for Peace and Ring for Peace, an event which lifted the voices of women faith leaders, diplomats, and a diverse array of practitioners and activitists engaged in issues that speak to the holistic peace. In the words Professor Karam, General Secretary of RfP, “Peace is not just the absence of war, but literally . . . living well together, understanding one another, and loving one another.” I was particularly inspired by representatives of youth networks who are fighting hate speech. I salute each of you who are working to bring peace, transparency,
equity, healing and community wholeness to our world.
I also have the privilege of announcing some new Board members: Dr. Agnes R.M. Abuom, Moderator (President) of World Council of Churches (WCC), Andrea Kaufmann, World Vision Director, Faith and External Engagement; Floyd Lalwet, Provincial Secretary and Legal Counsel for The Episcopal Church in the Philippines (ECP), National Development Officer of the Episcopal Care Foundation (member of Anglican Alliance); Imad Madanat, Vice President for Programs at Adventist Development and Relief Agency International; Reverend Mary Zulu Mwiche, Clergy/Lecturer in the United Church of Zambia University and Program Manager of Speak One Voice, a women’s faith network focusing on VAWC; and Deepika Singh, Associate Secretary General and Director of Programmes at Religions for Peace.
In our next newsletter, we will share highlights of what is planned for 2021, in the meantime, please enjoy and participate in the events and opportunities shared here.
