DIY Potpourri Christmas Ornaments (From Ewalu's 40th Anniversary Cookbook)
Camp Ewalu celebrates its 60th Anniversary in 2021. We've pulled this Christmas ornament craft from Ewalu's 40th Anniversary Cookbook for you to celebrate with your family.
Potpourri Ornaments (Not Edible)
Lois Luckritz
St. Paul's
Clinton, Iowa
1-50 oz. jar applesauce
4 T. arrowroot, from pharmacy
2 big cans cinnamon (approx. 2 oz. cans)
1 small can nutmeg (approx. 1 oz. can)
1 small can ground cloves (approx. 1 oz. can)
Drain jar of applesauce in sieve or colander 2 to 3 days, at least. Stir occasionally. Then add dry ingredients, (save some cinnamon to flour board). When mixed, must be dry enough to roll on a cinnamon-floured board. Roll to desired thickness, 1/4" or a little more. Cut with cookie cutters. Lift with spatula to a flat surface, covered with wax paper. Punch in eyes, buttons, and a hole for hanging, if desired. Let dry completely, several days or more. I leave out to dry on a table in an extra bedroom. When closed up in a jar or Tupperware these will keep their odor for several years and more. Please mark not edible. Hang on Christmas tree or package ties.

Fall Volunteer Work Day Project Recap
The Fall Volunteer Work Days were a big success! We had 25 volunteers for the work day in September and 45 for the one in October. Thank you to everyone who camp out and helped get camp ready for the winter season. There were many projects completed including:
- Many new campfire benches were constructed for the Trailblazer and Forester villages.
- Prickly ash and small trees were cut out of the Pioneer prairie.
- A top rail was added to the garden fence.
- All the picnic tables and benches around main camp were stained.
- Two new picnic tables were constructed.
- Cedar trees were transplanted to the edge of the ropes course.
- The Bluebird houses were cleaned out.
- Fallen trees were cut up and hauled to Wilder shelter for splitting.
- Wood was hauled to lodges and fire rings.
- The camp garden was cleaned up.
- Steps were installed on the path behind the Trailroom.
- Trail work was done on the ropes course.
- Leaves were raked around Creation Center.
- The Picnic tables were stacked for the winter.

Virtual Quilt Auction Results
Ewalu's 33rd Annual Quilt Auction was held virtually this year, from October 10th-15th. The online format allowed more people to participate in the event than in the past. Over 200 people registered for the event, which is almost double last year's turnout.
We are very grateful for the generosity expressed through the Quilt Auction. $39,290 was raised, which exceeded our goal of $35,000. This has made a significant difference in Ewalu's ministry this year as we begin to prepare our programming for next summer.
We received many positive reviews on the auction software. Many people found it to be fun and easy to navigate. Based on this year's success and feedback, we are looking into the possibility of running a hybrid auction next year to include more people. Ideally, we will run the Quilt Auction virtually for a week, before we kick off an in person Quilt Auction at Camp Ewalu.
We didn't take ballots for best of show at this year's Quilt Auction. You can view the three top selling quilts in the sidebar.
1. "Botanica Park" - Mary Lou Billhorn, Readlyn
2. "Roses & Ribbons" - Zion Lutheran Church, Dysart
3. "Grandpa's Best" - Diane Schilling, Guttenberg

You can make a difference this holiday season!
You may have already received your Christmas Card in the mail. And if you've already made a gift, thank you! If you haven't, take a moment to read on.
God is with you. Each Christmas, we celebrate God being born a human and coming to live among us. Matthew's Gospel says, "They shall name him Emmanuel, which means, God is with us." It is important to remember, especially this year, through the trials of natural disasters and pandemic that God is with you. God loves you.
Ewalu's mission is to serve all people as a place to connect the Word of God with the world of God. Jesus Christ, the living Word, connects to summer campers, camp counselors, and all our visitors through the ministry of Camp Ewalu.
Campers onsite at Ewalu and at home with their camp box material connected the living Word to their own worlds through Bible studies this summer. The Bible Study theme "From Generation to Generation" explored God's faithfulness to God's people throughout the Bible. Just as God was present with his early followers, like Abraham and Sarah, God is with us now in our generation.
Your faithful financial support makes this mission possible. Thank you for the generosity that has carried us through this difficult year. Your gift this season will help us continue to make those deep connections with God's people to God's Word.
Every gift makes a difference. Please make a gift today using the enclosed pledge form.
We are deeply grateful for you and your ongoing support this Christmas season and throughout the year.
Sincerely,
Clark Baldwin
Executive Director
