Show Continues 10th  – 19th November 2017
Paintworks Event Space, Bath Road, Bristol, BS4 3EH

Founder of the Bristol Drawing School, Carol Peace is a figurative sculptor who could not work without drawing. In 1992, she graduated from Winchester School of Art and set up studio in the Bristol Sculpture Shed, which would later become Spike Island, she moved to Paintworks in 2004.

Her intensely personal work is shown and collected all over the UK, Europe, the Far East and United States. Her large-scale work is permanently on show at Glyndebourne and at the Dorchester’s country house hotel in Ascot.

The poet John Terry wrote of her work, “They are first of all, real people. They yearn but they also give. They rise, they don't fall. They strive; are eternal optimists. They look perhaps slightly disorientated, but there is no pleasure in falling, or in giving up, so they keep on. 'For us there is only the trying’ ".

The main exhibition event will showcase Carol Peace’s work, from the life-size to the minuscule, referencing the last 25 years and with the drawings and paintings that are integral to her work.

A series of workshops and other initiatives are being organised, in collaboration with Bristol 24/7, to encourage and showcase the work of the young people of Bristol, culminating in an Autumn Feast on Thursday 16th November, in partnership with Square Food Foundation.

Bristol based acoustic trio, Three Cane Whale headline a musical evening on Tuesday 14th November. Described as ‘Exquisite, elegant, atmospheric and charmingly quirky’ by The Guardian, their music shares similar influences as Carol Peace’s work and event promises to be a fascinating journey through the landscape of the west.
