Downsizers Are No Dummies - Educating Your Clients Can Bring You More Business

Has spring only just arrived? Judging by the “heat” in the real estate market – it looks like it’s already in full swing.
The NJ Sunday Record recently published an article, Downsizing is a Bigger Deal Than Most Think” in which I was quoted, "When you talk about downsizing, you need to start preparing well in advance of the move. Many people need that much time because it's not just about downsizing a home, it's about downsizing all the stuff that's inside.”
In the article I also had an opportunity to comment on an upcoming ReadyStageMove’s™ “Downsizing for Dummies” public presentation. Evidently, lots of folks got the message that the downsizing process take time; requiring knowledge and preparation -- because at our most recent adult school class, we had a full house! This frequently taught class is a real-life example of RSM’s™ ability to collaborate with strategic partners in developing additional business.
At the moment, we are working with a couple of “downsizers” that were “students” at another of our other adult school class taught in September of last year. Our message was so effective that after the class I approached them to see what they thought of the process and if they might like to consider applying the ReadyStageMove™ methodology to their downsizing project. The message of starting now and the clear, concise and interesting way we described the RSM™ process really resonated with them and with a little additional coaxing, they finally decided to hire us.
We have discovered over the last couple of years that teaching to either our strategic partners or to the general public is something we personally enjoy. Our public presentations and adult school classes also benefit and grow our individual business in several ways.
First, having our names, companies, class description and bio appear in a printed or online catalog is a real boost to our brand recognition. Being associated with an adult school or featured as a speaker at a local library breeds credibility and is evidence of our competence and expertise in our field. Our advice? Take advantage of speaking opportunities, which will greatly enhance your own professional reputation.
For these reasons, as part of the RSM™ kit we have created, we include a copy of our basic public presentation – complete with notes and checklists – for each ReadyStageMove™ member’s use. You can use it to teach your own “downsizers that they are not dummies” and ultimately personalize with your own statistics and pictures, making it your own.
