Food Drive

Throughout the month of June, we are having a food drive to support Glendale Food Shelf, now operated by East Side Neighborhood Services. We stand in the wake of upheaval, violence and uncertainty with the opportunity to be part of the rebuilding, recovery and healing process. To that end, you can write a check with ‘Glendale Food Shelf’ in the memo line; or contribute directly online at the East Side Neighborhood Services metro food programs information page by clicking HERE. Note: if you contribute directly we'd like you to let us know so our full congregational donation can be counted!

Racial Justice Resources

You’ll find a Racial Justice Resources page on the PPUMC website that contains a growing list of ways you can respond to the needs in the greater community according to your personal preference and capacity. You'll find the Racial Justice Resources page by clicking HERE.
If you have something you would like to be considered for the list, please send it to Dave Nyberg, Comms Team Chair or to the office.

We have THREE special happenings next Sunday...Father's Day!

FIRST, Raising Cain's Chicken Fingers, a neighborhood eatery, is offering a lunch time special for PPUMC as part of their "Summer Faith Fundraiser Series." Purchase between 11:00 and 2:00, Sunday June 21, mention the fundraiser, and 15% of your tab comes back to PPUMC.
Location details below in poster graphic.
This is a family favorite for several families in our congregation! If you like chicken fingers, these are the real deal. It's all they make! ( fries, coleslaw, sweet tea and Texas toast.)

SECOND, if you'd prefer a plant-based meal, we'll match 15% of your purchase (anytime in June) at Trio Plant-Based Restaurant in the Lyn-Lake Neighborhood. Trio is Minnesota’s first Black-owned plant-based restaurant.
Location details below the Trio logo, below.
This is a local treasure. First. Black-owned. Plant-based. Restaurant.
You will be amazed. A family favorite of some of us, also!

At Cane's PPUMC will receive the 15% ONLY IF you mention the fund raiser.
At Trio PPUMC will receive the 15% ONLY IF you send a photo of your receipt to Pastor Chris.
The Cane's event is a neighborhood event originating in the restaurant.
The Trio offer is being made by individuals within the congregation.

And finally:

THIRD, drive by the church to pick up a book or say HI!
We are about to begin a book study.
We're reading "A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota."
It is a collection of first-person accounts from our own state. (More detail below.)
We've have a few copies available for purchase by anyone interested. Just contact the office or Pastor Chris to claim one.
(They have been and will be kept and delivered safely in plastic bags.)

Pastor Chris and Dave will be outside the front doors at the church from 11:30 – 1:30 next Sunday if you’d like to stop by and say HI!
Of course, we’ll be observing all physical-distancing guidelines.
Order takeout or delivery ANY TIME IN JUNE from
Minnesota’s first Black-owned plant-based restaurant
located at 610 W. Lake Street in Minneapolis.
Simply take a photo of your receipt and email it to Pastor Chris
to have 15% of the cost of your meal donated to PPUMC. (612) 326-1326.

Online Book Club Forming

As another opportunity to learn, reflect and take action, a PPUMC Summer Book Club is now forming. The first book we'll be reading is, "A Good Time for the Truth: Race in Minnesota," edited by Sun Yung Shin. As the state continues to grapple with some of the nation's worst racial disparities, sixteen of Minnesota's best writers provide a range of perspectives on what it is like to live here as a person of color.

The book is available through local booksellers such as Magers & Quinn or online. We have a few copies available at the church for pick-up during our Father's Day drive-through greeting from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
($18 each - we won't be exchanging cash, and the price is not an issue.)
If you want to pick up a copy next Sunday, please let Pastor Chris know asap.
We'll attempt to get more, if the demand is clear.

Book club details are being determined; if you have a preference for meeting time, please reach out to Angela or A.K. Hed Vincent or Pastor Chris.

The people of PPUMC stand with the Minnesota Conference in rejecting the

Traditional Plan approved at General Conference 2019 as inconsistent

with the gospel message and will resist its implementation.

We remain committed to full inclusion.
