Impulse – Pan-Canadian Media Arts Summit
The Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA) will present the Pan-Canadian Media Arts Summit this 31 May to 4 June. Titled Impulsion/Impulse, this vast and unifying event will include panel discussions, debates, conferences, networking and presentations of works.
As part of the Summit, there will be an evening in the style of "Pecha Kucha" to highlight meaningful initiatives that have occurred over the past two years in different regions of the country. Through the presentation of micro-lectures accompanied by images, video or sound clips, presenters from each of the six regions will provide an overview of promising projects in Canadian media arts.
To encourage better representation for the evening, the media arts community is invited to submit projects highlighting specific initiatives, important artists, innovative projects, etc. to be presented during the evening.
Eligible Presentations:
The aim is to discover inspiring art projects in an informal and fun atmosphere. With that in mind, submitted presentations can highlight exhibitions on view in the region, collectives and their work, public art projects, cultural mediation activities, etc. The work and process of a particular artist can also be the subject of a presentation.
A selection will be made and the best ideas will be presented by a representative from each region during the evening. Selected presentations will include a description of relevant information to properly represent the project in less than 5 minutes and 10 visual or audio files (photos, 20 second videos, or 20 second audio files).
However, for the selection stage, a short description of the proposed project, as well as three visual or audio files will be sufficient.
The selection committee will pay particular attention to represent all forms of media arts (sound art, film, installations, etc.).
