2015 Education Council Elections
Help Verify Your School's Selectors
On March 18th, Chancellor Fariña announced that 1,290 parents submitted applications to run for Citywide and Community Education Councils, a 77% increase in parent participation compared to 2013. Candidate Forums for each district council and all citywide councils are in full swing. Click here for the full schedule.

On Sunday, April 19th selectors citywide will begin voting. In order to continue this year's record numbers we need all eligible selectors to vote.

Candidate Forums
March 18 - April 16 
The second step of the election process kicked off on March 18, with the first of 46 candidate forums that be held next month across the five boroughs. Candidate forums ensure that the public has the opportunity to learn more about the parent applicants seeking to represent them.

PA/PTA Executive Board Members (President, Recording Secretary,Treasurer) should attend, as they are the parent selectors and will vote for designated candidates in their district.

Parent Coordinators will receive an email from FACE, one week before their district's forum, with flyers in English and Spanish attached for distribution or display. Additional languages can be requested for by emailing FACE.

Education Council Timeline

March 18 - April 18
District and borough parent leaders, along with the DOE, host forums for parents to meet and ask questions of Education Council candidates.

April 19 - May 8
Presidents, Treasurers, and Recording Secretaries of Parent Associations and Parent-Teacher Associations vote online for the new Community and Citywide Education Council Members for the 2015-2017 term.

May 12
Election results are published on NYCParentLeaders.org.

July 1
Elected and appointed Community and Citywide Education Council Members for the 2015-2017 term take office.

Report Parent-Teacher Conference attendance  and parent engagement activities on the Parent Coordinator Activity Report. Monthly reports are due on the 15th.
Tips For How To Help
Students And Parents With Test Anxiety
Citywide standardized testing is less than a month away with ELA tests scheduled for April 14-16 and Math scheduled for April 22-24. The Division of School Health has put together a helpful tip sheet for both parents and students. The sheet is available in all DOE covered languages and can be found here.
Invincible Reaches Bestseller Lists
Children of Domestic Violence (CDV) has an exciting update to share: INVINCIBLE, the book Parent Coordinators received in December became a bestseller in its category, appearing on five top lists, including the New York Times!

Summer Learning: Learn. Share. Connect will highlight great parent events, summer programs and parent   engagement activities to keep families engaged with their child's education throughout the long, hot summer. Details and event registration will be posted soon on the Parent Coordinator workshop page.

It's never too early to start thinking about summer. The NYC DOE has a full slate of Summer activites for students. Visit the Summer Programs page on the DOE site for more information
