Hey Everybody,
I hope everyone had a nice winter, we got lucky here and it really was mild. There’s been a lot going on at Golf Club of Illinois and with the lesson programs, I’ll try not to drag this out too long.
I’ve added more clinics and extended the season (starting April 1st) and working with several different foundations, we think that we offer the most diverse and comprehensive program in the Chicagoland area. All our clinics are designed for the age (5-17) and level of the junior, we now offer three and four day clinics as well as clinics that are once a week for four and eight weeks.
Joining the LPGA/USGA in holding Girl’s Only Golf Clinics, studies show they girls learning curve improves in an all girl’s environment, which helps them feel more comfortable and gives them a space where they are free to be themselves. We have an extensive lesson program and now offer a Girl’s Only Junior League during the summer. As one of only eight sites in the Chicago area, we anticipate these clinics to be extremely popular and fill quickly. As an added benefit, If girls register for the LPGA/USGA Girls Only program through the Girl’s Only Golf page on MPSGOLF.COM, register and participate in a clinic or league, they will receive at no charge a free gift from the LPGA/USGA  with a Girl’s Golf branded item. You will need to click on the Changing the Face of the Game logo that is the link for registration.
We will still be offering Junior Clinics that are co-ed, we have changed the structure slightly, providing three day clinics (Tuesday-Thursday afternoons 3:30-5:00) during the summer, the normal programs and a Boy’s Only Junior League also during the summer. Please click here to visit the Junior co-ed classes for beginners, for intermediate players please click here. And finally, we will be offering the Performance Golf Clinic twice this year (Tuesday-Friday, May 30-June 2) and Wednesday-Friday, July 5-7)
As part of our program this year, we have been fortunate enough to have received a grant from the Kids Golf Foundation that will provide the following; new starter set of clubs, golf bag, hat, polo shirt, glove, golf balls, and bag tag to juniors who require equipment. This offer requires that the junior register and participate in a clinic and the Junior League, we are also in discussion to have a scholarship program for juniors who may need some financial assistance to participate.
The Adult program proved to be quite popular last year, we have expanded it to include Tuesday clinics in the Spring and Summer to complement our Wednesday night clinics.
Finally, we have four Major golf tournaments coming to the Chicago area this summer, The Women’s KPMG PGA Championship at Olympia Fields and the US OPEN at Erin Hills in Hartford, Wisconsin along with the NCAA Men and Women’s Championships at Rich Harvest Farm in Sugar Grove.
For the Women’s KPMG, the LPGA will be offering a clinic for juniors (girls and boys) to attend at no charge, and I am trying to arrange a bus trip to the practice round on Tuesday, June 27th. We will need a few chaperones, the LPGA has offered to provide tickets to the practice round, it should be a fun filled day.
For the US OPEN, we are also trying to put a bus trip together, if you can provide some feedback to us regarding the day of the week you would like to attend (tickets run from $35-$125 depending on the day) it will make scheduling the trip a little easier. Erin Hills in Hartford is approximately 2 ½ hours away, please keep that in mind when planning the day. Ideally, we would have a bus of 50 people attending to help keep costs down.
In May, Northern Illinois University (NIU) and Rich Harvest Farms will host the 2017 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships! The women’s championship will be held May 19-24, 2017, followed by the men’s finals May 26-31 at Rich Harvest Farms. The “Home of the Huskies”, located in Sugar Grove, IL, is consistently one of Golf Digest Magazine's “America’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses.” Tickets start at $10 or there is a student ticket option. The Student Ticket gets anyone 18 years or under, or with a current college ID, a free grounds ticket with a paying adult.
